Win7 Can See 1 But Not Other Computers on the Network

Suddenly, Windows 7 will only see one of the 4 other machines on my network. It was working fine a few days ago. I have tried uninstalling Comodo and everything else I can think of - same result. All other machines show all 4 other machines on the network. My Win7 machine only shows one other machine, which is a Vista notebook. The other 3 machines that don't show up are another Vista notebook and 2 XP desktops. All machines can see the Win7 box and even print through it. What is going on? Why would one machine show up but not others??

Hi and welcome MX

I can assume you are using homegroup for networking. Homegourp is fine if the machines are all win 7 but if not it can be problematic. another problem win 7 has is the use of IPv6. In older networking (XP and early vista) IPv4 was used and was more stable. If you want to change from homegroup to workgroup its pretty simple. Just go into network and sharing>device>properites> ipv6 and uncheck. then add a new network using workgroup and not homegroup

Thanks Ken. Strangely enough, after way too much time fiddling with this, suddenly all the machines showed up in the network folder (however, residential gateway disappeared). Then my notebook (running Vista) showed only 2 machines. I'm wondering if this is my Linksys router acting weird. I'm going to leave my Win7 networking settings as is for now and see how it goes. Yes, I did set it up with IP6 and homegroup to begin with, but this is the only Win7 platform on the network. Still, prior to today, the network had been working great in both directions. Will report back anything conclusive.

Ok, just getting rid of the homegroup and joining my already-established workgroup fixed things. Strangely, it was working with both the homegroup and workgroup set up, but weirdly and intermittently. Did not need to change any IP6 settings.
