WordPad improved, but no more 'Scraps' support

One of the features I used a lot in WinXP was:
- open WordPad for typing a quick text, or pasting something
- CTRL+A to Select All
- Drag the selection to the Desktop, creating a 'Scrap', a 'torn-text-icon' for instant access, opening with WordPad (IMHO, better than QuickNotes, for the text could have any lenght, keeping the formating, but still just an icon on the desktop)

In Win7, WordPad was revamped, 'New & Improved', with more MS-Word-like features; but...

- Scraps are no longer supported with WordPad

My WinXP partition is still accessed thru Win7 Windows Explorer ('Documents and Settings\User\Desktop'), but the scraps '*.shs' files are also no longer supported by Win7, unable to be opened

Bummer...

At least drag-n-drop the browser URL icon to the desktop is still supported (pages I don't want to bookmark, just save to read then latter)

sorry, but: uh?

yes:
WordPad saves as RTF (and you can close the application)
NotePad saves as TXT (and you can close the application)

But RTF is NOT the 'Scraps' feature, the unsaved text's instant access from the desktop

(yes, you can send a saved file -- document.rft -- to the desktop; but this is not Scraps)

Wordpad will also save as .txt. But this is not relevant to the OP's complaint.
