win7 64bit bsod

Hi all,

I’ve been reading a lot of the other threads with great interest and I hope you can help me too.

I have installed win7 64bit on a clean install.
Bios is updated - and as far as I can tell my drivers are updated (I think).

I’m getting a lot of BSOD and they happen at all times – so I don’t think it’s heat related. Also I ran a memtest86+ 4.0 without any errors.

My system is:
Core i7 920 2.66GHz
Asus P6T, iX58
12 GB ram (2 x DDR3-1333 3x2GB CL9)
Radeon HD4670 1GB

Hope you can help me

Thanks
Martin

Hi. It's your firewire driver causing issues.

Right click the 1394 driver in the device manager. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick.

Then choose the one with Legacy in it's name. Install that. Issue resolved and you are good as new. (I run this driver myself for 1394.)

Enjoy.

Older drivers on the system, please update them as soon as you can:
Code:
ASACPI.sys Mon Oct 30 22:09:12 2006
AsIO.sys Mon Dec 17 04:11:49 2007
RtHDMIVX.sys Sun May 13 22:10:27 2007

All 5 of the dump files point to 1394ohci.sys - and 4 of them are Driver Verifier enabled memory dumps.
AFAIK, this is a new driver for Win7 and there are known issues with legacy apps/hardware.

So, what 1394 or Firewire stuff do you use? If you don't use anything, disable the Firewire stuff on your system. If you do use it, leave it unplugged and the Firewire driver disabled unless you need it. Make sure that you visit Windows Update and check the optional updates to see if any apply to your system.

Hi again,

Thanks for the answer and for taking the time to help me out :-)

I've tried the 1394 legacy driver...and it seems to be a little better. I don't get BSOD so often any more. Now it just freezes. And usually I get a little warning when the music starts to stutter and cracks.

I'm a music pro and I use a firewire based soundcard (RME Fireface400)

Thanks
Martin

I see that there's a BIOS flash available for the RME Fireface 400 at this link (Flash Update Tool for Fireface 400. Update to firmware revision 1.70.): RME: Downloads

Have you installed that?

Crud!!! <insert appropriate cuss words here.gif>

Let's take a look at this file:

MSINFO32
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Nothing clear cut in the MSINFO32 file.

I'd suggest uninstalling all of the Asus programs (as I've had many problems with them on my P6T in the past).
Save the ASACPI.SYS file to another location (in case the system reverts you to an older version).

Just installed a firewire card with Texas Instruments chipset (Dezen 1394a) and I think the problem is solved.

Thanks for your help
