USB Failure

Hello everyone,

I purchased and installed the windows 7 vista upgrade the day it was released. Everything was working great, until one day all the USB hubs decided to quit on me. In device manager the following message appears; Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I tried updating drivers, deleting drivers and reinstalling them, I also went as far as deleting low and high filters in the registry. I finally decided to restore my system to the time I updated to windows 7, and this finally worked! Until a couple days later, and now Im right back to where I was with absolutely no USB's.

Can anyone help me with this problem? Can I reinstall windows 7 all together? This is driving me nuts because I cant use my wireless mouse/keyboard or my external hard drive. Please help.

I'll bet it's installing chipset drivers and messing up your USB. I would put it on manual and see what it's doing there. You will probably notice the culprit. When you do, right click, hide it and put it back on auto.

I would try that if I could get back to a point where they work. When I load system restore from the windows 7 disc, I no longer have any restore points.

It's probably chipset drivers. You could "roll back" if you know where to look. It could be other things....but probably drivers. You could always try a repair install.

If I can remember I will get a screenshot up here of the correct drivers. Someone else may be able to show you what drivers to roll back and you should be in business. You will need to stop WU from doing it again.

I just completed the repair install and all USB devices seem to be working fine for now. Windows update has 7 critical updates available for install.. What updates should I look for that might cause this problem again?

Anything to do with chipset, or you may want to post a screenshot. Me or someone else can tell you what we think is causing the problem. Glad to hear it's working, let's keep it that way!

Few days later and the problem is back.
Here is a screen shot of all the updates since the repair install of windows.
Last update was for Windows Defender.

It would be easier for someone to help if you had your system specs.

I am wondering if it's your motherboard or BIOS now. I have no way to know.

I don't think any of those updates are chipset updates, so there goes my theory.

And I have had my USB keyboard shut down randomly on me too!
