Hello,

First post... I hope this is the correct place.

I just installed 7 ultimate 64 bit (oem version) on my HP dv9500t.

This is was not an upgrade, I nuked my old OS (vista 32 bit) and did a totally fresh install of 7. Everything went smoothly, the only problem is that 7 is not recognizing my 2nd internal hdd. Only the C drive shows. When I installed, 7 asked which drive to install on, so I know it saw it then.

Any advice? Is there a driver I need to install maybe?
I am clueless, any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, HW :geek:

Welcome to the forum!

I'm guessing that what you are considering to be a 2nd HD is a hidden partition that HP configured as a recovery disk...

If so then it's not accessible now... Once we identify this being the case, we can at least recover that as free space.

Thanks for the welcome :)

No, this notebook has 2 physical hdd's. Two 100GB 7200rpm drives.

Only one of them is being recognized. There is no HP partition as this was a fresh install of 7 and not an upgrade. I removed the HP partition long ago.

Thanks, HW

Can you see the second drive in "disk management"?

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management

If so can you post a screen shot?

Awesome, thanks xD.

When I right click, it gives me the option "new simple volume". Is that what I need to do?

yeah
a simple volume is one partition or one volume for the hdd, more complex is having multiple volumes on the same hdd.

If you're like me, I want my hard drives in a logical order: So I would right click the optical drive and choose change drive letter and change it to whatever. Then I'd do the same to your new partition and assign the drive letter to d:

Then go back to the optical and assign any drive letter you'd like it to be.

Post back if this doesn't work for you.

Regards
