FSX CFG File Access Denied

Ok im new to forums so im just gona say my problem :p

I have had FSX for vista and i could easily save repaints into their aircraft.cfg files. But now with windows 7 when i try to save a message box says *access denied*. Someone then suggested to make me the admin but i have done this and still no luck. Someone please help!

I too am having the same issue and with the same type of file. I simply cannot edit .cfg files. Have tryed all kinds of things, but nothing works.

I am waiting the hear the solution.

OK, I hope I can explain this as I have not much experience on this type of forum. I too had a problem with my config files after running FS9 and FSX. in WIN 7 64 bit, always "access denied". I finally stumbled across a fix, maybe not totally correct, but it works and access seems to only be in FSX files only.
First open windows explorer, go to the drive your program is on (usually C. drive open Program files(x86) open Microsoft games, open Microsoft Flight Simulator X, open Sim objects, open one of the aircraft files, from either Aircraft or Rotorcraft. In the aircraft file that you expand, right click on the config file in that folder, right click aircraft config(Aircrat properties), go to security in the box that opens. Highlight each individual name,ie SYSTEM, ADMINISTRATOR, USERS, then (click on)open (Advanced), for special permission, click change permissions. The Advanced Security settings for aircraft window will open. Highlight each line SYSTEM, ADMINISTRATOR, USERS. click edit for each item, and with that window open (Permission entry for aircraft window will open. make sure all boxes are ticked. If control is gained the system will change all permissions in Flight Sim X, and this process will take several minutes. Close all open windows and try it. I used to change my config files in FS 9 and now I can again in FSX.

BEEN MONTHS AND TRIED EVERYTHING... my missus said ADAM you suposed to be a computer wizzz lol and you cant figure it out??? well now i have lol

What worked for me in this case was to right click on every folder that said Access Denied,
Click Properties,
Next Security and click the advanced button near the bottom of the Templates Properties window.
Next click Change Permissions and highlight the type Deny at the top of the list.
Finally click the Remove button to delete the deny line.
Folder works fine after that.
Haven't discovered a way to do this globally though, that would be much easier.

Hi all no need to go all round the world to edit cfg files simply associate notepad as file opener and presto .Edit to your hearts content

I'm having a similar problem with files from a previous OS (WinXP). I am specifically trying to import a backup email file on CD into Outlook and get an error message saying the file access is denied. I've copied the file to my hard drive and then I get a message that the file is not a personal mail file or that it is corrupted. I do a right-click on the file in Windows Explorer and go to Properties but there is no Security tab. I go to the Permissions tab (when available) and change permissions to allow Full Control but I continue to receive the file access denied warning. I don't seem to have these problems with most files created in XP.

Down load a copy of the knopix live cd iso, burn it to a CD and boot off it.

knopix is a fast booting linux operating system on a CD and will enable you to have access to every file / folder on your Win7 system. It's also open source (free) will usually pick up all your hardware and comes with a browser, open office etc.

I bought a Win 7 pro laptop last week and the 1st thing I did was to back every thing up with Clonezilla, open source again, repartitioned it with Gparted, again open source and then installed ubuntu 11.04 in a dual boot win7/linux setup.

I went from XP to Win7 and am frustrated at the way Win 7 hides stuff and denies access and this site has been a great help.

At least when running ubuntu I can at least see every thing in Win7 and can modify any thing and copy files in and out of hidden folders.

While mainly a linux user, I still need windows to run 3 or 4 windows packages that won't run under wine. Also I'll no doubt be asked to sort out a win7 machine for "friends" and so need to get my head around it.

Just unhid the win7 windows directory and all the contained files by changing the attributes from ubuntu. It took about 2 minutes including the re-boots.

As I said earlier, a live knopix should work fine. I'm no geek and knopix is very easy to use.
