Has anyone tried AutoCAD 2008 LT on Win7 x64?

I checked the Autodesk website, and the freaking upgrade to 2010 is over $500!!! That's out of my league, and IMHO, way to much for the upgrade of a product that is only a year or so out of date. (Autodesk currently has a $300 rebate on AutoCAD LT, but it does not pertain to the upgrade, only new purchases - which oddly enough makes the full version about the same price as the upgrade!!)

Anyway, I have yet to try and install the 2008 version because I don't want to screw up my clean registry, so I figured I'd check and see if anyone else is in the same boat and has tried one way or another.

Well, since the crickets were chirping here, and I could not find anything anywhere else on the internet, I created a Restore Point and ran the install. Amazingly enough, aside from a Adobe Flash error on installation (which is easily bypassed), the install went fine and the program works! WHEW!

So, for any other souls out there not wanting to spend the $500+ for an upgrade to version 10, it seems that Version 8 LT works fine with Windows 7 64-bit version.

may i ask which version of windows 7 64 bit you were using? my xp laptop is dying fast and i'm running Autocad LT 2008. I checked the local box stores and they only stock laptops with Home Premium 64 bit. But from what i'm reading i may need Professional and run the xp module to install the autocad. So anymore info you have about your install would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Don't worry. I'm using Win7 Pro x64 and the AutoCadLT 2008 works fine. Installs fine in the native Win7 O/S. No need for XP Mode. Just cancel the Adobe install that is part of the installation on the AutoCad LT 2008 CD. You can skip right over it.

So is there a chance that Autocad L 2008 would work on Windows 7 Home Premium? If it works on the native Win 7 Pro....

I installed Autocad 2008 LT on Windows 7 64 bit, but when I access to the Communication Center, it tells "Installation Not Completed"...
...and so it's impossible the update to the Service Pack 1.

Some of you have the same problem?

I's an Autocad bug.
You have to change Communication Center settings until you can see the "update available" message. You can now upgrade, but Autocad will continue to notify the availability of the Service Pack 1, also if you have already installed it.

Seems like there is no way to solve this behaviour.

The problem with XP mode on 64bit Windows 7 is that it's another whole operating system running on top of the existing one.

Windows 7 has perfect 32bit emulation, there's no reason why AutoCAD LT can't run on it, it's an Autodesk restriction for no reason it seems.

I used this software www.longbowsoftware.com, it works with all the AutoCAD's, including AutoCAD LT. I used it for my AutoCAD 2008 and it works really well! I'm running 32bit AutoCAD on my Windows 7 64bit perfectly!!! Very happy

I've been running two copies of AutoCad LT 2008 for almost 6 months now. One on a Dell laptop running Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit with no issues. The other copy is on a HP desktop running the same, but on this machine LT crashes from time to time for no determined reason. But we have been able to recover our work each time, and for the most part it does work.

It works, the only problem I have is when i open a file from the LAN: AutoCAD became very very slow, unusable...
For example, it takes 2-3 seconds to access every menu (file, modify, etc.) every time you have to use them.

Worked well after installing flash

Thanks for the hint with flash.
I installed flash for internet explorer before starting the ACAD LT 2008 setup and it worked fine. The message regarding the flash registration didn't stop the installation. Right after this the OK checkmark appeared at the flash checklist item and the installation proceeded to the main application.
After that I applied the important updates. Worked well.

My system is running on Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit and I'm using the german version of ACAD LT 2008.

It looks like its working now right? I would like to install AC as well and just finished a training where they used AC08. I am looking for AC2008 and finding prices still in the 500 range for this and was hoping to find it for less. If you have any resources as where to buy I'd appreciate that. Thanks
