Media player 12 will not keep songs in library

I'm starting to think I have a computer problem. (windows 7, 64 bit) I first couldn't get my printer connected, so I restored the laptop to "factory settings" and tried to start over. Now my media player is not working correctly. At first, there were only 3 songs in my library. 3 songs supplied by microsoft. (Sleep Away, Kalimba, & Maid with the Flaxen Hair - Sample music) I didn't want any of those songs so I deleted the sample songs folder. Well those 3 songs are still in my library and I can't delete them. Also, the songs I've added to my computer will not stay in the Media player library. I have to continually "Manage my library" and add the folder my music is in. And even then, when I get my songs in my media player library, after I close the media player and start it again, just those 3 songs (that aren't even on my computer) are only in my library. Please help cause I'm ready to do another system restore if all else fails. I forgot to mention that when I try to delete those 3 songs from the library, I get the message that the songs cannot be found and that they were either moved or deleted ( I know that, I deleted them). But when I click on the blue info button the choice of "remove the item from library" is grayed out and I cannot click on it.

System Restore sounds like a good idea, but you could try what I've outlined below firstly :
Open computer folder - click organise - folder and search options - view - select "show hidden files, folders and drives"
Go back to the computer folder and follow this path -
Computer - Windows7 - Users - your name - AppData - Local - Microsoft - Media Player - DELETE all files in the folder - Media Player will renew them upon restart. Its best to keep your music files in the Music Folder as Media player searches it automatically and updates it also. So do that, and restart media player, and see if your working again after it finishes restoring itself.

That is because the music library is only supposed to point to the music stored in your "my music" folder. You should store your music at "user name"/my music. They will show up in the library but only point to the actual music file.

Those three songs you delated from the library still show up because they are sitting in your "my music" folder. Delate them from there if you don't want them

Thank you VERY MUCH!! I tried it and it worked. Those 3 songs were deleted from my computer, but somehow my media player didn't want them to go and kept them in the library and wouldn't let me put other songs with them. I deleted everything in that folder and that did the trick. My library updated automatically and all my songs are playing and staying in the media player library. Thanks again!!
