Enable wireless adapter

Hi all,

normally I would not bother you with such a silly question but I just can´t solve the issue.
I run W7 ultimate 64bit on a brand new customized machine. Not an upgrade but a clean Installation
The problem I have is the following:
I upgraded to wireless with D-Link DWA552. I have a Linksys router WRT54G.
Installation and driver upgrade went fine. PCI card is correct in device manager en enabled.
The issue I have is that I cannot enable the wireless adapter.
Ok next step: got another card. Linksys, the a Belkin, the a noname.
Always the same issue. Microsoft compatibility center says YES to 64 bit. Installation is easy as it should be but the wireless adapter stays disabled whatever I do.
I also restartet WLAN Service, I disabled/enabled the hardware.
I appreciate every Info/Tip.
btw I did countless wireless installation.
Am I missing something?
Thanks so much

I assume you have checked that you have installed the driver and it's working properly as noted from Device Manager. I also assume you have enabled the device in BIOS (if applicable).

What machine do you have?

Just the other day i have had issue turning on bluetooth device on one of our laptops. It turns out i needed the hotkey driver. Installed it and turned on BT via Fn + F5 and all seems to come online.

There is a new Windows 7 driver for your D-link wireless adaptor dated 11/05/09 which might help.

Click where it says "United States" then click "drivers". It also lists a fix for the problem you described. ;)

....¤ Supports Win7 OS.
¤ Fixed: Wizard scan would be empty on utility's first run.

I think I may have a solution for you. i went through the same thing and found the answer on a forum. I got a new wireless card and i couldn't enable it either what i found to be the problem was my anti-virus. Yes i had kaspersky IS installed. disabling kaspersky didn't help i had to completely remove it from my computer and upon reboot my wireless was enabled again.. I learned it from some guy who was having the same problem with zone alarm anti-virus installed on his computer. So completely remove what ever anti-virus you have and reboot your computer and see if it enables itself.

Not a Problem I'm happy to help... I went through all the same crap you did until i read the forums.. I also read someone else having the same issue and he said it was fixed after he reinstalled windows.. I wasn't going to go through that again so i kept looking.. Finally I came across that post and I tried removing kaspersky completely and it worked. I still don't understand the reason why it affects the wireless card like that.. I still haven't put back on kaspersky but what i did learn about it was you need to install your wireless card first then the anti-virus. And if you ever uninstall the wireless card for some reason it doesn't matter what wireless card you use it won't work until the anti-virus is removed.. I really wish i knew the reason behind it for i like kaspersky.

Kaspersky & wireless adapters

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a Network Filter that Kaspersky Internet security attaches to the wireless adapter. You can enable the wireless adapter and keep your Kaspersky anti virus software running if you remove just the Kaspersky Filter.
To do this go to the Network & Sharing Centre, then click on "Change adapter settings". Right click on the adapter that is causing the problems and choose "Properties". Remove the tick from the box next to the Kaspersky NDIS filter.
The adapter can now be enabled and used. It may require you to go through the diagnose connection problem once to reset the adapter once the filter has been removed.

Thanks to people like you i was able to solve my problem, linksys has no idea about anything and kaspersky sucks as simple as that. Thank you.

wireless adapter works ....

FINALLY! I have been searching for 2 days the problem of my wireless adapter issue and all along it was the stupid K-pesty. After the uninstalled - my life is back to normal. I knew I hated that anti-everything-shut off-not let anything work - "virus" protector. I guess they can state that they are 100% guaranteed NO VIRUS ... because they turn off all your internet connections... :geek:

ugh!

Kaspsky's network filter's causing the problem

Thanks MarkH you are a genius!

It is Kaspersky's nework filter which causes the problem. You don't have to remove the antivirus. SImply go to 'Network Connections', right click on 'network wireless connection', 'properties' and uncheck Kaspersky Anti-virus NDIS filter . Then restart the computer. Once you connect you computer wirelessly to a network go back and check on the filter. It is that simple. It took me 3 days installing / uninstalling wireless drivers until saw this forum. Thanks a lot guys.

All the best.

Same Issue

This also occurs with other Internet Security applications. I just saw the same problem with a client that decided to install Trend Micro Internet Security. It attaches a service to the wireless adapter. Once I unchecked it, the icon for the wireless was no longer grey and I was able to enable the interface.

I just worked on a Windows 7 computer with the very same problem. Customer had purchased a Netgear N 600 wireless USB adapter. Everything installed although it took a long time. The wireless adapter was always disabled in the network connections And the enabling it didn't do anything. I watched it as I uninstalled kaspersky Anti Virus and sometime during the uninstall boom it was enabled. My problem was solved thank you everyone for your help!

Just an FYI, my wireless connection would not enable until I uninstalled Zone Alarm anti-virus AND restarted my computer. Afterward there wasn't a problem with my wireless connection. I'm now using Microsoft Security Essentials without problem.
