Can I run an older game with xp mode in virtual PC mode?
I installed and game states "can't start hardware accelerated Direct3d 6"
I tried using both integration and disabling integration
I did install direct3d

The XP Mode video card is a S3 Trio32/64. XP Mode was designed for business users who only require 2-D support.

I tried the Windows 7 Ultimate RC in both 32-bit and 64-bit version. After I bought Windows 7 Ultimate release version on October 22 I had the choice of installing either the 32-bit or 64-bit versions. I chose the 32-bit version because I found too many of my older programs did not work with the 64-bit version. With Windows 7 32-bit version some of my older games worked such as Quake III Arena, Microsoft Golf 2001 Edition, and Road Rash.

BTW, a useful program is Pinnacle Game Profiler. It allows me to even use my XBOX-360 controller with even very old games. It does this by mapping XBOX-360 controller buttons to keyboard keys.

Microsoft XP Mode does not support Direct3D, so your game won't work for sure.

You can use our VMLite XP Mode, which does about same as Microsoft XP Mode, but works without VT-x/AMD-V, and also supports Direct3D, so you could play your games in VMLite.

More info here:

Welcome to the VMLite
