Video Card is recognized as Standard VGA Adaptor

So, I have this problem: I had Windows 7 64 bits and it was everything fine, but I have some programs that require drivers, and there isn't a driver for 64 bits. So I tried installing the Windows 7 32 bits version.

Everything was working fine, until I found out that my video card isn't being recognized anymore, and it's being showed as "Standard VGA Adaptor". I searched and found out some people with the same problem. Most people advised them to update drivers, but that didn't work with me.

The following error ocurrs when I try running the stup.exe which should update my video card's driver: "The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

The thing is, I tried unistalling the "Standard VGA Adaptor" driver, but it requeires me to reboot, and when it reboots the drivers are automaically reinstalled. I also tried reinstalling Windows 7 32 bits, didn't work. Tried reinstalling Windows 7 64 bits, didn't work.

Any help would be really appreciated. It's been a few days since I had this problem, and I'm trying to solve it non-stop.

And before I forget, my Video Card is the "nVIDIA GeForce G210M".

I have this same exact problem.

Windows 7 Prof. 32-bit, and it says I have Standard VGA Adapter.

I ran fine on Vista with a NVIDIA (don't know model) but now it says I have this and I get the error: "No graphics device with hardwaresupport was found using DirectX! If this is not correct restarting the computer may help." when I try a video game or Aero graphics.

Restarting doesn't help, and my Windows Experience Index puts graphics and gaming graphics at 1.0 on a 7.9 scale and I used to have 5.4 with Vista on both.

I went ahead and tried those drivers you posted. I seem to have to have the same problem as the original poster. I got the same error he did when I tried the driver links.

The computer for both of us is acting like our video card is "Standard VGA Adapter" when in reality our computer has something else. So when we update it says "Standard VGA Adapter" has latest upgrade and won't accept another card's update.

It is a laptop, but it's a Sony VAIO.

I tried the driver installers, same error. I'll try this tutorials and I'll report whether it works or not.

After modding the.inf you can also try and install it from device manager by clicking on standard VGA>update driver>browse my computer>let me pick>have disk>point it to the extracted modded file>then double click the .inf>hit ok> and install. hope this will help. Fabe

@videogamevinnie: Since you don't know what video card you have you can download everest Home ( I like to use this others use different ones) |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 Download Run it and it will tell your video adapter. Post back with the information. You should also go to your user cp, top of page open it go to edit system specs and fill them in. So other can click on the system specs lower left on your page when posting and it will help to know all your hardware. Thanks Fabe

Under "Display" --> "Windows Video" I went and took a screenshot of what it said. Should be attached...if you need other info just say the word.

Even this thinks I have Standard VGA Graphics Adapter; I wish I remembered to write that kind of stuff down before the upgrade

Well that's not any help lists it as UMA meaning no results. So here is what you need to do. Go to device manager>click on display adapter>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware Id. Copy and Paste the hardware ID string. We can find out what is is from that and most likely find you a driver. Are you using 32 or 64 bit 7? Sorry it took so long to get back to you was caught up in an IM. Fabe

Nvidia GO7600. So go back through this thread and try either one of the 2 posted mods to get your driver. Post #5 Hope this will help, just take your time and follow the steps to the T and it will show you how to modify your .inf file to install the driver. I've got something I have to do right now but I will check back and see how it went. We'll get it installed. You'll need the 32 bit driver to mod.Fabe

Alright, it installed without messing around it. The Windows Experience Index put Graphics at 4.3 and Gaming Graphics at 3.9

That is an improvement from 1.0, but I tried running Anarchy Online, the game I frequent, and everything lags badly and everything has sharp edges, even when it shouldn't. I am happy it works now, but if this is gonna be a step down I'm going to want to get back to my Vista setup as fast as possible

Edit: I restarted Anarchy Online, and got an error message: "Could not find the selected display driver/device combination! Using default!"

Probably why that happened (it still had the problem this second run)

If you just installed the driver without the mod then that is why the problem still persists. You need to mod the driver. Fabe
