Hey There,
Just got a new machine with Windows 7, burned 2 dvd's from avi files and they worked fine, now when i use Windows to burn a dvd from an avi (even tried one of the ones that had worked previously), I get no audio on the DVD, and it doesn't matter if I watch it on the computer or in a DVD player. The avi plays fine on the PC ... Any help appreciated!

Hi and welcome

What are you using to burn the dvd?

type device manager in search go to the sound tab. Is your device listed there? does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any other "unknown" devices with yellow on them

Try burning with this program ( DVD Flick ). If it is still not working, then we have to look for a system setting problem.

Other Info
love my wacom pen and pressure sensitivity...
wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
Everything is fine with the hardware.
I was really hoping to be able to use the native support in Windows to burn the movies as its quite simple for my mother to learn.
Not sure about the codec, how would I find that info?

I get the feeling that it was a windows update that caused the issue, but just not sure which one ... just a thought

Bingo, Windows DVD Maker while good at what it does, is too limited in the formats that it supports. As whs linked to, give DVD Flick a try. Much more robust program than WDM and not very hard to use,

DVD-Guides.com - How to convert any video format to DVD using DVD Flick

For the most part it is just a matter of selecting the file you want to convert and letting it do its thing. The default settings in are enough to go on for a basic conversion, only need to get into the advanced settings if you want to get fancy.

Funny it worked for the first two burns, and then quit. I'll give the DVD Flick a try and let you know.

Thanks for the replies.

you guys are on a windows seven forums, someone is asking for help with a sound issue with windows dvd maker. Yet you provided no actual useful feedback as to why there is no sound when u burn a dvd or provided any actual suggestions to fix the problem. Why is there no sound when burning an AVI file onto DVD with the native windows dvd maker?? any help to actually fix this problem?

I had the same problem and then I found a page that mentioned that windows dvd maker is poor when it comes to formats, convert video files to wmv first. I used Prism Video File Converter which is a free windows program and voila! everything works perfectly!

Answer is simple. Apparently nobody knew a good answer to the question. That happens. Not everybody is as smart as you apparently are.

I realize this post is old, but here's what I have found concerning no audio when burning with Windows DVD Maker. Make sure your directory path/file name has no special characters. This includes -&_. My filename had a dash & I removed it with the same results - no audio. Looking deeper, my directory path also had a dash. I moved the file to the desktop. Upon the next burn, audio. (And yes, I did have audio during the preview at each attempt.) I hope this helps with anyone having this problem.

solved no audio with windows dvd maker

I had this same problem and couldnt figure it out. Several dvds were fine with clear audio and video. Then, all of a sudden all I got was video - - - no audio.
It took me a long time with a lot of trial and error, installs and uninstalls, but I finally figured it out.

1 - first of all, windows dvd maker (WDM from now on) does not support mp4. I tried installing additional codecs to support mp4 and probably messed things up more by doing this. Stick with avi and you will be okay. If your files are in mp4 format, it's easier to convert to avi using another program, then burn the avi with WDM.

2 - Open WDM, load an avi file, then click "options". Click "compatibility". If there is a list of codec programs listed, uncheck all except for "AVI decompressor".

Once I did that, DVDs burned fine once again with clear audio and video.

Summary - - - avi files only - - - no other codecs selected except for avi decompressor.

It worked for me - - - hope it works for you too.
