windows live mail question

I have just bought a new laptop and have windows 7 and windows live mail installed.

I have always used outlook and windows mail which i loved and was so used to.

Now i am sure i will eventually get used to this new email but there is one thing i would like but cant seem to be able to find out if it can be done or not.

I have 5 email addresses and with my old windows mail i was able to have all incoming go into one folder no matter which email adress it was sent to and also when i sent out email no matter what email adresses i used to send it from it would all go in the same sent mail folder.

With this windows live mail it is showing 5 seperate email account folders and i find it so confusing even when i use the quickview folder.

Is there a way i can combine all my addresses into one folder for all incoming and outgoing mail?

Hello cath1024 Welcome to the Se7en Forums!

Unfortunately with the new Windows Live Hotmail each user name or email alias becomes a new Windows Live ID. With Outlook Express or Windows Mail seen in Vista your one account there could see several aliases being the main difference.

There is a solution however to have various Live accounts listed as an option on one inbox namely the Outlook seen in MS Office 2010 now available in beta form. Once you open the inbox you simply click on the WLM account name to open the inbox for that specific account. The new OE will also import mail as well as send mail from various other email accounts besides Windows Live there.

With any WLM id you can look over and download the beta for MS Office 2010 Pro at http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/download-office-professional-plus/default.aspx

Don't know how willing you are to change mail applications, but Thunderbird has the capability you want.

You just configure your separate accounts and then use a "global inbox" and all inbound mail will land in the same folder. Likewise for sent.

It can be configured to look and behave very much like Outlook Express and works well on Windows 7.

yes that may work - i am pretty much a pc dummy so downloading this will this be an easy task for me to do?
and do you have a link to where i can download this thunderbird?

I assume you will want to transfer some saved email from your existing email application to the new one.

That can be frustrating, but it's the nature of the beast--none of the transfer facilities are particularly easy or foolproof.

Post back here if you need help with it. I went through it a few months ago.

Ideally, transfer as little as possible and be prepared to enter your existing email contacts by hand if necessary.

Im sorry that WLM was not right for you, it really does work great. My only complaint is the pale color, which cannot be changed. The change appearance does not really work to well.

ok i downloaded thunderbird - i put in one of my email adresses and it found it i guess from window live mail but then it said cannot complete or something about not being able to do it?

For the time being, pretend Windows Live Mail doesn't exist.

Don't try to import anything.

Just read the help files, consult the Thunderbird forum, etc. Make one simple account for one of your email addresses and try to get it working by sending test mails to yourself.

You have to know your ISPs email servers (inbound and outbound) and enter that information when you set up an account.

Then duplicate the process for your other addresses.

Then get the "global inbox" thing going.

Then get any saved mail transferred from Windows Live Mail if you have any.

You set up accounts through tools/account settings.

You configure the application generally through tools/options.

Look around the Mozilla site for FAQs.

Now you know why I suggested the Outlook in the MS Office beta. While TBird works for various providers when importing from those accounts it lacks as far as WLM there.

MS works with MS for the most part!

I would love to have the outlook but if it is a beta will that not mean it will only work for so long then it will cancel and you will have to buy the program?

That's the drawback for any MS Office products while in beta. But this is also a chance to give the 2010 and Visio 2010 as well a good lookover at the same time. Well at least until you find a more definite solution.

The one real advantage for using WLM over a regular ISP account with several aliases is the lack of need for downloading any emotions unlike OE or WMail in past versions where you end up at a place loaded with adwares when going to download their idea of a free collection for customizing your mail.

For the Outlook in Office 2010 have a look at how easy that is to add any new account in. The different accounts will be seen as links in the left column one above the other keeping them separate but still in one place for easy access.
