Hi all, new here, I will give specs and ask for some help. First, new home build
This is about the 6th or 7th time I have built a comp, from scratch
Asus P6T MB
i7 2.66
Noctua fan
2 sets patriot mem
evga 260, 216 896 overclock card
m-audio 1066lt
Win 7
750 gig HD

All works well except the usb ports will not recognize anything. Have tried all of the updates , chipset, turnoff comp for 15 min, reinstalled drivers, etc, etc. Have tried all usb ports, nothing. Device manager shows all working. I have it come up with unknown device some times with G15 logitec keyboard. Have new software installed. I have put usb devices in all 8 ports (card reader, keyboard, flash cards, nothing will work, When I try to use my Jamlab I can hear it ( all lights come on with these devices). On speakers, I can hear connection kind of sound but nthing works.
Please help
trying to build my studio

TRy downloading the Intel Chipset drivers from Intel.
Intel® X58 / ICH10R

I have an Intel board and I had an USB problem until I installed the Intel ME drivers.

I'll check and see if your chipset has a ME driver. I think ME stands for Management Engine.

Couldn't find a ME Driver for your chipset. But I'll bet it's something like that.
Did the ASUS Forum help?

You may need to download and install the latest intel matrix storage manager software/driver if AHCI is enabled in your bios under sata configuration or drive configuration, what happens during installation of W7 is W7 installs the Intel driver, but for correct functionality you need to install the intel matrix storage manager after installation is complete if you dont it will cause the problems.

You will find it at the intel site - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
Select chipsets - chipset software - intel(R) matrix storage manager - Select Operating System - select Windows 7 (64bit OR 32 bit) - select drivers - select intel(R) matrix storage manager 8.9.0.1023 - download and install.
(make sure you don't download the floppy configuration utility by mistake) - it will show up if you select utilities.

I have tryed all ports, front and back, Have tryed to download the the matrix chipset and get error ( your computer does not meet minimum specs ). ASUS forum has recomened RMAing the board (third one) to reinstalling OS. I feel like there is a driver or some kind of a patch that needs to be installed, I keep getting hints that they are trying to work, like lights on devices are on when plugged in or when I try my jam lab, When I try some of the effects pedals I get a pop sound when clicked on but no sound, I do have sound with everything else so it is an audio issue.

I am sorry, meant not an audio issue. Also I cant understand why I get the error message when trying to load the manager chipset software, seems like I would have more than enough requirements. Win 7, 12 gigs, 750 HD??

You should check the bios first to see if its enabled - if it isnt you would get that error - however, if you change it in the bios from IDE to AHCI unless you reinstall the OS you wont be able to reboot the OS. There is a work around for this, however, Error message when you start a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE" - the driver microsoft uses is ok in this scenario, but you can still download the matrix driver after the fix if you want to but it isnt necessary.

If your reinstalling the OS unplug unecessary usb devices, just leave your keyboard and mouse attached - if you want hotswapping enabled make sure you enable AHCI in the bios before you install the OS then you dont need the fix - it can be found under drive configuration or sata configuration in the bios - dont forget to install the matrixmanager if you do it this way after the OS is installed.

Also have you the latest bios installed - you should do this prior to anything else
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Downloads - select OS - BIOS
I noticed the matrix driver there on the above asus driver page is now version V8.9.0.1014, so you could use it if you go that way - I dont think the older version would cause the error but unsure - like i said check the bios firstly to see if AHCI is enabled, as that will cause the error.

P6T ?

You don't say what version of the P6T you have.
The drivers I mention here are working on the P6T Deluxe Ver 2.

Bios: ver AMI 0704 downloaded from Asus site

Chip set: ver 9.1.1.1025 (downloaded intel_chipset_9.1.1.1025.exe from Intel site)

In the bios I am running Sata Config = Enhanced and Configure Sata as Raid
(I set it to raid although I am not prsently running raid but could configure a raid set later with a minimum of trouble) You could run AHCI if you prefer it has performance enhancements over IDE.

You don't say if you are running 32 bit Win 7 or 64 bit
You mentioned USB ports. I have:
USB Functions --- Enabled
USB 2.0 Controller --- Enabled
USB controller Mode -- HI Speed
Bios EHCI Handoff --- Enabled
Legacy USB Support --- Enabled
Plug and Play ----- Yes

Don't know if any of this helps. I'll check back and see if you have solved your usb problems.

Ok, I enabled AHCI in bios, rebooted, BSOD. Went back disabled. Back to were I was. I feel like I am getting closer for a cure on this thing, do I need to unplug all usb devices when doing this. I am a little confused. I tryed to download latest BIOS (0904) but I dont know how to flasch the ROM without paying 30.00 bucks for something that I do not know will work. Also tried, again to download and install the chipset manager that was mentioned in prior post, it still gives me an error (this computer does not meet the minimum requirements). I guess I am a dummy with this new stuff. Could you walk me thru this thing, I have been working on this for about a year now trying to get things going. I feel I am close to a solution. And THANKS so much for support.

HI Hammerhead, I have a plain P6T motherboard (the one that you can put in three LARGE video cards). I have had two P6T deluxe V2 boards, One had to RMA because I had ram installed from vendor and it had on close inspection scratches on some of the traces (did not work). I am in the process of RMAing the second, but ASUS is very slow in respondind (took phone number, will call you back) I bought this board because I found it for a little over 100 dollars (brand new in box wrapped and sealed). In BIOS I have enabled everything with usb, set AHCI to enable, reboot, get BSOD. Went back and reset and I am back to where I am now. Thanks for your support.

Bios

OK just read your post on the 0904 bios. That Bios is for the plain P6T. You can flash your bios. Get your manual out and read it. It gives more than one method. My preferred method is with afudos and USB stick. You may have to use a floppy. A floppy I dont believe will hold afudos and the rom file both so you will need two floppies I guess one with afudos and one with the unzipped rom file.

Just keep checking this thread. There is knowledgeable people in this form and some one will show up after while.

Asus update is the easiest for beginners - it works from within the OS, and all you need to do is download the latest bios version and select browse and locate it - Asus update V7.16.01 under utilities.

All you have to do is read my post - you missed the fix - it requires a registry edit then you reboot, go to bios, and enable AHCI in the bios - the fix is here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

Hello again, I have been trying all kinds of things in the bios with no effect, now I am trying to update bios, well now my floppy wont work, when I put floppy in drive with data that has been downloaded from another computer it gives me (this disk must be formatted) I take out disk with data put blank back in click the format button and get an message (windows explorer must shut down) which it does. Now I since I cant get any usb ports to work and now floppy I am thinking about going back to Win XP. I think win 7 is just full of bugs. Another thing I downloaded driver detective, ran scan, found which drivers were bad, then downloaded the recomended drivers to fix, run, rebooted, run scan, still the same old crap, shows my ide and usb drivers out of date. Bought a pci usb card, installed, plugged in all my usb devices and again nothing works.
I tried to format my hard drive to install Win xp but it wont let me, I have been out of the loop on windows DOS for a while, could some one help me out with this, I am sick and tired of trying to get this OS going. Going back to Win XP

Can you please read my last 2 posts carefully they have everything you need to know- the way to update your bios easily and the way to get AHCI to work with the microsoft fix, or read below:
(1) go here - ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Asus update is the easiest for beginners - it works from within the OS, and all you need to do is download the latest bios version to your desktop, and unzip if necessary, select browse and locate it from within asus update, (which is the safest way) - Install Asus update firstly V7.16.01 under utilities from the above link.
(2) go here to the microsoft fix so you dont get a bsod when you try to start the OS when you have AHCI enabled
Error message when you start a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"

This may not work - post back if your still having problems.

This may not work but unless you try it you wont know - what have you too loose.

I am sorry if it seems like I am not reading your post. I am, and THANKS so much. Your advice has been some of the best. However I dont have ASUS update software. The ASUS disk would not work at all (it would give me an error message that this disk is not compatible with this OP system) absolutely useless. So all ASUS software that I have downloaded came from ASUS website. I tried downloading the (ASUS update software program) from ASUS, Extract, then RUN it will give me an error (this software is not compatible with this OP system, please check to see if you have 32 or 64 bit version) which I do, WIN7 64bit, looking at disk as I write, so without floppy, usb,or asus update I cannot update BIOS. A good note though I did get the AHCI, from ide, (to boot, I hope I got that right, or AHPI something like that anyway has to do with in bios) anyway, got that set, booted, no BSOD. I have the manager 8.9.0 1025 software loaded, which should be the very latest device MANAGER or MANAGER ENGINE software, I hope loaded. Now I am getting an IDE error (little check marks on 0, and 1, C drive ) I believe this to be the hard drive (am I correct ?). Hard drive still working ??.Still No USBs, or floppy. I am really thinking about going back to WIN XP and see if this will work.
Can you give me advice on how to reformat drive, I am from the DOS era 70s, 80s, and so on, forgot DOS completely, can you help.
This is the third ASUS board I have been thru in the past year.
Thank you.

Well if you are going back to XP - when you reach custom install during installation of XP delete the partition and recreate the partition in the empty space - it may prompt you to format the drive - it will be empty now, and will only require a quick format. I think this is just to reset the paramaters - once a drive has been formatted you dont need to do a full format even after creating a new partition. Then install WXP to the new partition you created. There is nothing wrong with XP - i would still be using it except it crashes my favourite game.

I tried to use the WXP disk, but the install button is blanked out. Would not install. I think I need to do a boot from dos and reformat entire disk. I think I will pull HD out and reformat in another computer. I am really getting tierd of this, now I am thinking a MB issue. GREAT, my third.
Thanks a whole lot for your time.
