Hi all,
I got a disk drive with 3 partitions...

1 - vista 64 (50GB)
2 - win 7 64 (30GB)
3 - data (80GB)

I want to move win 7 installation to vista partition and extend partition 3 with freed partition 2.

-I though to do this
-Backup win 7 to external drive
-boot from cd installation
-choose to restore win 7 in partition 1
-After it boots correctly, resize partition 3 adding partition 2.

I realized that boot files are in partition 1, when I tried in windows 7 to backup system (partition 2) it want sto backup full partition 1, because it's part of system and partition 1 is considered critical.

Any procedure to acomplish this?

thanks in advance...

If it was me I would copy my data to a CD or DVD and install Win7 fresh and let it use the whole HD space.
After that is done you can add a data partition to whatever you want.

My 2 cents.

I would have to agree with IggyAZ. Just backup everything and reinstall Windows 7 in the desired partition. You'll have a hard time reconfiguring Primary Partitions not to mention the risk of loosing data and messing up your programs

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu and attaching file using paper clip in reply box.

We have helped removed over 100+ dual boots since Win7 release with nearly perfect success.

The tool you will want to use is free Partition Wizard bootable CD. We can advise you the exact steps when we see the screenshot.

I really apreciate it
Here is my screenshot disk structure...

Hi,

It depends what Disk management apps. you have.

EITHER :

Open an elevated cmd in 7, type:

bcdboot c:\windows /s c:

press enter

close cmd.

Boot Paragon cd ( it has to be one with the partition Copy function )- delete first partition - copy 7 partition into the unallocated space, mark it Active.

That's it. Alter your other partitions as you like.

OR:

Open an elevated cmd in 7, type:

bcdboot c:\windows /s c:

press enter

close cmd.

Image 7 and restore to first partition instead of doing the Copy function with Paragon - Macrium would also would be fine for that - mark restored partition Active.

NOTE: Either way , it's a good idea to make an image of the Vista partition - you never know when you might want it. I assume you also have the manufacturer recovery discs for Vista?

Macrium will be the quickest for that:

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

However the Paragon free imaging app. has a lot of extra useful functions -

Free Backup Software: Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Free Edition ...

(the free Paragon imaging app. doesn't include the Copy function I mentioned earlier - you would need a higher edition , or one of the Partition Manager series - they were giving away Partition Manager 10 personal yesterday - if you got that - you can do the Copy)
