Some "other" kind of compatibility setting?

Hey people!

I know about the compatibility settings available in the tab when going into the properties of a program or shortcut. However, a few days ago when I resumed my computer from suspend one of my programs crashed (ultramon) and windows 7 popped up a dialog saying it applied compatibility settings for this application of some kind that I couldn't change? I didn't have time to look closer at this at the time so I closed the window and now I can't find any information what so ever on what this setting is, where it is, and how I change it.

I don't want a setting present for this application as it isn't incompatible with windows 7, it was probably just a thing of the moment, a bug orwhatever. Do any of you have any idea abotu what kind of setting this is? Windows never ASKED me to apply it, it told me that it already did so and that it would be activated the next time the program runs. Also like I said, it said something about that I cannot have a say about it, which seems really weird. Sorry for the lack of info, I'm writing from the top of my head as I can't recreate the window to re-read it.

Potential big problems, before we worry abou the small ones. Scan with your A/V. I do not like the sound of that change. Check for virus.

Regarding the first question. If you want to change it you can do a system restore. You may not be able to use the program, however.

No virus, it's a fresh system, I believe the problem was caused by resuming my computer directly after it was suspended, I know freaky things may happen when you do this. So you're saying a restore is the only way of changing the setting back? sweet lord, they sure cut the user off in 7, not alot we can have a say about is there. I'd rather not do this as it was a few days ago and I have no idea what I may have updated after the point. No other alternatives? What does these "hidden" settings even do? I'd like some more detailed facts if possible!

There may be other solutions, and others will probably come by to inform you but thats what I would do.

I keep that option open but I rather don't, it's always hard to tell what will happen from a system restore and there may be effects later down the line.

The program (ultramon) that was pointed out by Windows is still running perfectly fine, just as it did BEFORE windows all of a sudden found it being incompatible in some "hidden" sense. It ran for many many days before windows made that conclusion. What I'm worried about here is that performance may be hurt by running it in some kind of compatible mode which I don't even know what it is.

I genuinely hate not knowing what is going on under the hood, that's why I'd like some information on how to control this. Hopefully someone knows what this is as I can't find any information about it in the help.
