Volume not loud enough - how do I bypass volume limit?

I like to listen to music loudly sometimes. I have both the volume mixer and my application's volume set to maximum levels, but it's not loud enough for my liking. Is there any way to increase the maximum sound volume in Win7?

I don't think they have altered the Volume limit in Windows 7 but you could always have a play with Graphic equalizer to see if you can increase it a bit there.

Yea...the onboard amplifier leaves a lot to be desired. It's not necessarily a Windows thing it's a Motherboard thing. Get externally amplified speakers and you are golden my friend.

external amplification is always a plus... but its not the solution

I have 400 watts (at 4 ohms) going to each of my front speakers, the aplifier weighs 100 pounds. Even with this kind of power (and I do admit, I should probably go for 1Kw some day) I find that the volume is lacking in windows.

I seek Bit Perfect audio, I want to bypass all the modification to the sound as it goes through the sound card, and especially the OS. I want myvolume to be controlled by my preamp, not by winamp, windows, or anything else.

Anyone have ideas?

I primarily use headphones. My speakers have plenty of volume, and my headphones are fine most of the time, except when I'm watching something with lower-than-normal volume, or music that I want to listen to louder than usual.

Try enabling "Loudness Equalization" in your sound card settings, if available. You should see a bit of a boost in volume from that.

Update your sound drivers with drivers from your sound cards Manf. Windows 7 installed its drivers for my Audigy 2 plat.... Sound was very quiet... I installed Creatives drivers... Volume half way up is much louder than the original drivers. Good luck.

I know what you want. You want to put the volume to 150% not just 100%. Linux as be able to do this for over 10+ years and I have not find this in any version of windows to date.

In Linux you just click on the sound icon on the taskbar, then open the sound preferences, there you can put the volume passed 100% all the way up to 150%

I know what you saying, the volume in windows is just not that loud and you right. I have a duel boot laptop with win7 and Linux. Even at just 100% and not 150% (which Linux can do) it is all ready way louder than win 7 and can go louder.

100% volume in win7 is like only 60% to 70% volume in Linux. (This will very based on installed sound card. This is how it is for me.)

If you must have the volume louder you may have to install and use Linux. UNLESS there is a windows app that will do this for you, that I just don't know of.

I don't know way MS puts the volume limit so low.

Yes, there is definitely a difference in Windows 7 overall output volume, I have a tri-boot system, Win-7, Win-XP & OSX-Leopard. Win-7's output volume is positively anemic compared to the other two. Probably something to do with leaving overhead for the DSP plugins, bad decision though. Microsoft should have released some kind of audio guide for the changes made, I've never seen as many complaints regarding an OS handling of internal audio.

I have and idea - you can use ffdshow settings to boost volume while watching movies (if you have it installed - for example as a part of CCCP codec pack)

dfx audio enhancer

Mate just use "dfx audio enhancer"... it's a type of plug-in that works for alll kinds of media players (WMP. Winamp, DivX, VLC media player). You can choose whether you want to listen on speaker or on headphones and what you want hear louder (only bass, vocals, or everything).

I used this on my old laptop which just didn't have enough volume. You can find this software for about 29 Bucks or just search the web until you find it for free.

This is possibly an update but on searching google, this thread was the top hit and the actual answer is not in here.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Select Your Output on the Playback Tab > Properties > Enhancements Tab > Enable "Loudness Equalization"

I'm not sure if this will push the sound levels above a threshold but it should fix problems with things being too quiet at the OS level.

Just wanted to put an actual useful answer in this thread for future searchers.

I am having the same problems with my windows 7 and the volume being quieter then it should be. But heres the catch, when i first installed the drivers for it from the Realtek web site. Now this isn't my main computer its my laptop although I NEVER use the built in speaker I always use my External speakers. My external speakers are the Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound System. I did a fresh install when i first got the computer and downloaded the drivers from Toshiba's website, But also it does have Dolby Advanced Audio not sure it this would effect it or not but I have to have the volume at 100% on my laptop but I leave it there because I never use the built in speaker, but I have to have the volume over 50% on the speaker system to have a good volume level for comfortable listen. If any one could shine some light on this issue that would be great.
