Issues with Uninstalling Norton Antivirus 2009

I am trying to uninstall Norton Antivirus (which was preinstalled as a trial on my computer when I bought it), I have used the Norton Antivirus Removal Tool and have also had assistance of Norton Antivirus online product support . . . both instances after Norton Antivirius was uninstalled and the computer was restarted began a cycle of a black screen with scripts running to the safe mode options screen to the password login screen which after two screens goes to a blue screen with scripts running . . . Each time I did a system restore and was then able to login. I then contacted Norton Product support a second time and was told it was a vendor issue and to contact my vendor (I was online with them for approx 2 hrs to no avail).

Please someone help!!! I have 8 days left on this trial!!! I want to download Microsoft Essentials but I hear I have uninstall Norton Antivirus first . . . .

Here is a suggestion I once used successfully with another program (not Norton).

Reinstall it.

Reboot.

Retry the uninstall. You might choose Norton uninstaller for that or maybe Revo uninstaller.

Or maybe both. You can reinstall as many times as needed to try another uninstall method. Use each uninstall method to a conclusion rather than trying to use both for the same uninstall.

Worst case scenario: can you simply turn Norton off rather than uninstalling it--at least enough to satisfy MSE? Maybe not.

The most commonly mentioned app for that here is Malwarebytes at Malwarebytes.org.

Download the free scanner, open it, go to update tab and update, go to scanner tab and do a full scan. Might take a half hour to run, depending on drive size.

I would add to this that after reinstalling you should go through all of the updates it has available. THEN try the uninstall using the the Norton Removal Tool.

ahh..
I see you removed HIJACK.DISPLAYPROPERTIES

But actaully on Windows Vista and Windows 7, it is just False Positive.

Hello

It is not an actual infection, but instead a non-default setting that is often altered by actual infections, however, in Windows Vista and Windows 7 Microsoft changed the default setting to the opposite of what it was in XP so on Vista and Windows 7 systems (such as your own) this detection should be ignored .

If you need anything else please post.

Thanks
You can safely have Malwarebytes' ignore this detection as well. That's the default setting on Vista and 7 64 bit versions and this detection was designed specifically for Windows XP, where that particular registry setting is the opposite (a 1 instead of a 0).

If you have already deleted, fix it:
