WMP - Can I separate my library into New & Old?

I have things I want to keep in the library, and I download news hourly & another half dozen things every day. I don't like having to wade through the things I'm keeping to get to the new items. My old version (with XP in'07) put everything in Recently Added, and then a few weeks later things would move into the main library. Is that in WMP12? I have had things in there for 5 weeks but nothing is happening. Is this feature gone? Why on earth would they get rid of it!?

Why not just have separate folders.....one for the keepers, and another for the temporary stuff? With Mediamonkey my podcast downloads, which I listen to and then delete, go into a folder completely apart from my music. Seems like this approach could work for you. :)

I tried creating a new folder, but it isn't showing up in the Windows Media Player. I'm not seeeing a way to create new folders that are actually in Windows Media Player.

And in my old version, WMP created the folder itself, and put things in it itself. Why would they get rid of that!

I can't answer why they would have changed that, but I may have your solution in this snip......

That's how I added a folder, but it doesn't show up in the Windows Media Player.

What do you see if you bring up the folder menu in WMP? Anything like this?

When I pull up my folders in WMP, my new Keepers folders doesn't show up. I know it exists because I can find it when I go in through Windows Explorer. Can you get a new folder to show up in the WMP left-hand menu?

In your new Keepers folder, near the top, it should say "Include in library"....did you do that? I think once you do that, then by following the steps in post #4 you should be able to make it work.

It now shows up in the Library in Windows Explorer, but it's still not in the Library in WMP. It would have been helpful if Windows 7 hadn't started calling everything a library. :)

I've grown to like the libraries, actually.:D

Unfortunately, I've run out of ideas to help you with this. I only use WMP part of the time, most of the time I use Mediamonkey. I hope someone more experienced with WMP12 can find you the answer, because I feel like we've almost got it but there's some little thing we're missing.

Of course, as soon as someone finds the answer, I'll probably end up doing the old  Good luck!

It now shows up in the Library in Windows Explorer, but it's still not in the Library in WMP. It would have been helpful if Windows 7 hadn't started calling everything a library. :)
Well, I just spent almost two hours with this stooopid WMP trying to figure this out....I wanted to find the answer, so I tried a different approach...adding a video folder.

I had downloaded the mp4 video with the guy talking about Firefox 3.6, added it to the main Video Library, and I can play it in WMP, but I can't make it visible in that folder view....sound familiar?

I've methodically gone through various help menus, and I even went into the "Turn Windows Features On and Off" and enabled every single feature, on the off chance that something I had disabled previously was affecting this. I set in the WMP options menu the feature pictured below, played the video , and still could not get it to show up....even though repeated attempts to add it now tell me that it is in the WMP library.

So I am at the point now of saying "screw this thing" and downloading the often-recommended VLC media player to use instead.

For you, cjhtwo, maybe a different program would be the answer for you too. You didn't mention, I don't think, whether the things you were downloading daily were audio or video. I take care of my music and podcast needs with MediaMonkey (asides from CD ripping) and I will most likely give VLC a try in the next day or so for video use. Any other questions, I'll do my best to help you out. :geek:

Thanks for all the work you did! What I'll probably end up doing is trying to go back to the WMP version that I have on my 3 yr old XP desktop. 12 has a few features that I like better than the old one, but none of them are worth having to go through 4 page-downs to get to the hourly news that just downloaded.

Thanks again for all the work you did!
