Hi,

I've got a Acer Aspire 4520 notebook, that serves me very well.

just upgraded from 7 32bit to 7 64bit, all going smooth,

Except my co processor and a few other bits and peices aren't installed.. im missing the chipset driver... easy you say? download install it. well i wish...

Acer being useless as they are their 64bit win7 ultimate driver doesn't work. complains that it wasn't designed for the os its currently running on, it was apparently designed for windows vista. some vista drivers do work on 7 but not this one, ive even run it in compatibility mode, no success. the driver that doesn't work is located here

Code:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Chipset/Chipset_NVIDIA_13.11_W7x64_A.zip?acerid=633990342487895794&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%204520&OS=701&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=AAP_9
I need to get this installed because with no drivers it keeps blue screening feeding bad data to kernel etc.... which is understandable.

By searching google theres every driver available for the Aspire 4520 except the chipset.... has anyone else got this laptop or over come this problem?

its driving me mental that every time i get the computer doing multiple tasks i get a blue screen.

please help, there must be some way. why would they release every driver but that one?

Thanks

*EDIT*

something else that might help is a screenshot of device mananger it shows what is not installed, if i could install these even manually it would solve the issue

Hi buddy.

Yes, in some cases finding drivers can be quite painful.

The driver to look for would be "NVIDIA nForce 610M" as I did a serch for technical specifications for your laptop model.

You can try to obtain them from here
Just wait for the page to load and then select your country.
click "Download Drivers"
In product type down drop box select "nForce"
In Product Series down drop box select "nForce 6 Series"
In Product down drop box select the nForce 610i / Geforce 7050
Change Operating System to Win 7 64bit and click search
Click Download btw its 210MB

Plase note, a friend of mine that is always involved with nvidia said if the drivers from nvidia don't work, try your manufacturer, in this case Acer.
The nForce 610i / Geforce 7050 is the only drivers that come close to yours.

I hope this helps.
I'll do more searching and post my findings, if any ;)

Well ignore this as sReKcAh has beaten me to it, ;) but with a more reliable driver page.

If you haven't try that, download them + install them.
reboot laptop and then check the device manager ;)

okay, update.... getting there, everything is finally installed. what a hassle though... acer could at least make sure there windows 7 drivers actually work before posting them.

thanks you guys for your help. hope this stops the bluesceens but i think i got one just before this post..

screen randomly went black and laptop restarted then sat there and hung till i manually turned off and powered back up. I wont count that as a bluescreen as i hadn't done a restart after installing the new drivers..

*crosses fingers*

Hi, I was having the same problem with my Acer. Acer has finally posted a driver for our chipset. I'm going to run this and see if this stops the bluescreens. Also, are you having any problems with windows update. Every time I run it, I have to use system restore to undo it. I'm hoping this was due to not having a chipset driver installed. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Ok nevermind. Now I see what you mean by the drivers not working. They should make sure that they work before posting them. So did you use the Vista x64 chipset driver from Acer? How is that going for you? Please let me know. I'll post anything new that I find.

I emailed Acer about the problem with their chipset driver link, and they hastily replied with a link to the same driver that I told them was the wrong one. It wasn't a confusing letter, just straight to the point. I'm not surprised at their incompetence, just amazed that here it is three months after the official release of Windows 7 and still no driver for this. However, I did notice that the Aspire 4520 isn't in the list of Windows 7 compatible machines. I went ahead and installed the Vista Ultimate x64 chipset driver in Vista Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. I haven't bluescreened yet, but I am still afraid to run Windows updates. My computer is working fine and I have too much work to do to have anymore setbacks with that.
Oh, the CIR driver is for the Infrared Transmitter on the front of the computer. I'm guessing yours has one. I've never used it, but some older cellphones had them to transfer files wirelessly before bluetooth. I'm sure it doesn't hurt to install that driver.
I'll post more on this if Acer sends me anything useful or if I figure something else out.

jbisit420 & anyone else left in the dark by acer on a 4520 aspire in windows 7 x64

first. get this
Code:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Chipset/chipset_nvidia_5.1.2600.0131_Vistax64.zip?acerid=633639863569226758&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%204520&OS=V01&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=AAP_9

then right click on setup.exe click properties then click the tab "Compatibility Mode" check the box "Run Compatibility Mode" select windows vista x64 then click okay and okay again run the .exe and install and your chipset is successfully installed in windows 7 x64

on another note can anyone that has experience with windows dump files please download and read this for me? i don't know what im doing with them and cannot make much sence of google...
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/338124080/012010-37206-01.dmp

i think it might have something to do with Jdownloader (java based downloader rapidshare etc...) as it seems it only does it when its running.... might just be a freak coincidence though

Thanks this forum has helped me so much already

I did install that driver in compatibility mode and everything seems to be working fine. Acer emailed me back again and said they don't recommend changing the factory settings. But Windows 7 runs way better then vista did, even with the wrong chipset driver. It doesn't sound like they are working too hard to fix the problem and it doesn't seem like nvidia is too worried about the problem either. Maybe between the two we could get a driver eventually. I've never checked my dump files before. I don't seem to be having any problems with jdownloaders though. You might look into getting RegCure 2.0. Previous versions of this mess windows 7 all up. But this version works very well and my computer is running very well. I still haven't tried windows updates yet. I'm going to do that this evening after I get my school work done. I'll post the results of that whenever it's done.
