Just a Question - What email client(s) are you using on W7

Hi everyone
just a question -- as there is no email client included with W7 what are you using.

I have no problem with Microsoft Outlook as I've got Office installed but what are other people using.

I actually don't mind Outlook myself -- I'm not a fan of "Web based" email clients and I really don't like "Windows Live".

The time I was on Win7, I had Mozilla Thunderbird.

I used to use Thunderbird myself. Now I use Windows Live Mail. Two things I really like about this program is that I can have multiple email accounts set up, for me it's 2 x Google Accounts and 1 x Microsoft Live Account, and one BIG plus is the easy way to backup all your messages if you ever need to reinstall the OS! Done that a few times!!

Webmail all the time... Why would you want to store all emails on your hard drive? Let them be stored on someone elses hard drive. Just my $0.02.

Windows Live Mail for me. I thought that I would not like it at first, as I was used to using Windows Mail in Vista, but the layout in WLM is a great improvement as it means that I can read my E-Mails without having to do as much scrolling.

I use Thunderbird with multiple email account across multiple Operating systems (my Thunderbird profile is on my data drive and one edit when re-installing an OS brings back everything.). Basically I get an identical Thunderbird view including all my add-ons and rules etc from three current windows installs on this machine.

I did use Live mail for my LIve address but since the changes in January this too is now in Thunberbird

I don't use clients cause I'm too lazy to set them up

Multiple mails account, calendar sync with my work, etc All via Gmail. It's easier with outlook than with the webmail as I can't log into multiples account in Gmail at the same time

incredimail since 2002 use backup function to move systems/reinstall etc >

I would like to be able to run the config from my datas drive though then I wouldnt even have to remember to backup

None, gmail suffices for me. (ie. It's web-based interface, not using it with IMAP or POP.)

I have two. Windows Live Mail and Windows Mail. Comparing the two so if the final release does not have a mail client then I will have an idea what I will be using.Live is newer to me since I just recently moved to Vista from XP. I have been using Windows Mail since xmas. I am starting to like Windows Live. lm

That's the way to go! I managed to get Windows Mail working along with adding WLM to the list. There's a sticky for getting WM going on 7 to look over. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5481-windows-mail.html?ltr=W

yep I used that tutorial to get Windows Mail installed and also learned a few things about "taking ownership" a plus for me since I kind skipped vista.

Someone posted a thread for seeing WM work on the 7000 build some time back seeing the main executable dragged into the startup folder to get it running once you had ownership. The tutorial of course has been better written since that was first seen.

Once I had followed the original advice I actually copied the same files over from the Vista installation after to see a normal client. But the tutorial there saves all the extra steps taken for that one.

Very impressed with Live Mail which I'd not used before but the whole Cloud Computing concept makes me nervous ... a bit like asking Big Brother if he didn't mind watching you?

Gave up on the Brontosaurus Outlook and stole the Windows Mail folder from my Vista installation.

I'm using Outlook2007. Don't like live mail as I want all my mail from all accounts in one inbox. Never been a fan of web mail. When I want to reread an email it's just too much trouble to get to. I liked Win Mail and did the move Win Mail to 7 from Vista a couple times, but could never get it to be set as the default.

I have used so many mail clients over the years. I hated having to export email folders back and forth from Outlook Express, Windows Mail, WLM, etc. everytime a upgraded the OS. I also have three or four HTML/Java based email accounts (mail.com, gmail.com, yahoo.com) for mostly SPAM and registering stuff. I filter and forward all that to my main mail account at an Exchange Hosting service called webmail.apps4rent.com . It cost about 7 bucks a month and it is full featured. To access email from any place with an internet connection, I just type in the URL and get an Outlook Web Access (OWA) interface that is very similar to Outlook and WLM.

I have ran my own Exchange mail server in the past and got hooked on OWA. So, I went looking for providers who are running Exchange servers in a state-of-the-art data centers with high speed connections and full data recovery capabilities. They also had to offer OWA and access to my mailbox using Outlook 2007. The best I could find at the best price was webmail.apps4rent.com. I can access it from any web browser on any OS at any time anywhere. I use Outlook 2007 only to sync up my folders and provide a local copy (backup) of my mailbox on my hard drive. I can wipe it clean and start over easily because my actual real mailbox is on apps4rent's servers. I am happy.

Get it working ok? When first trying the idea out I went through the process of dragging the WinMail.exe into the startup once I had taken owership to see WM come right up when Windows started. The key when copying over from Vista was not just the folder in Program Files but the Application Data under your user account name.

The tutorial for this simplifies things considerably there however with a link for the TakeOwnership tool. If you are dual or multibooting XP and/or Vista with 7 that works on all three.

I use windows live mail because its easy to use, simple and nice to look at. It also has other functions eg calender. the reason i dont like using third party or even outlook for that matter is they always want to have something running even when your not using them. Live is actually really good, thumbs up from me.
