Actually been running it for two days now and it really does impress me. I have been an avira die hard but thought I would take this for a spin and must say it doesn't disappoint at all.

The gui is nice and easy to navigate. It has a small footprint and i don't even notice it running even with real-time scanner. It also comes with gamer mode to stop those pesky interruptions such as updates etc.

Overall "I" give it a 9 out of 10.

I currently opt for MSE on all three of my systems, and to be honest i really can't fault it....

However i did use avast on a previous system before MSE was available. Again, no major complaints, MSE just seems to be lighter and has a more windows integrated feel (i guess that's kind of obvious being a microsoft dev.)

I would be interested to hear what the reasons someone would use this over say MSE are? Are there free AV's out there that really exceed what MSE has to offer? Would love some input... anyone convince me that i should give this new version of Avast a run over myu existing setup?

I have been running Avast free for about 2 years now on XP,Vista and Windows 7 Pro and i must say it's very good. Just does it's job in the background quietly untill it's needed. All i had to do was turn off the update sound in the settings, easy.
For extra security once in a while or if i detect a problem i run a SARDU boot USB i created with loads of programs on it + 5 antivirus boot disc's.

Just tried Avast Internet Security 5.0 (trial) and it did not work. Once installed, could not get an internet connection to activate. Uninstalled and installed again, same problem. Programs that usually start up (weatherbug & Malwarebytes) were extremely slow in coming up. Used the windows uninstall to Avast off (no uninstall with Avast). This took quite bit of time to uninstall. Program is finally uninstalled, does not show up on desktop or in all programs. However, if I go to computer, drive C:, Programs, the files are still there. I am unable to delete them, indicates I need admin permission. I am Administrator with full rights. Even tried to delete at command prompt, gave me access denied. How do I remove the files?
Went back to Norton NIS 2010.

using the free version on x64 windows 7 right now without a hitch and using very little memory.

biggest prob i had with avast 4.8 was the horrible UI. the new 5.0 UI is much more user friendly and has much more options to customize what you want.

Working OK for me (upgraded from version 4.8). Problems can occur if you are installing on a system that previously had a different AV program. In these cases, you need to completely uninstall your existing AV using the tool that should be available on the appropriate AV vendor's website. Once you have done that, you should be able to install Avast! without problems.

avast! - Download Free Trial Versions of Antivirus Software
You have to run it in safe mode you can enter safe mode by repeatedly tapping F8 during startup. :D

It worked. Thanks. Not sure why Avast would not work. One of the few times I have had that kind of trouble. But its all cleaned up now.
