Q&A Deployment and Management of Virtualization

With Virtualization one of the barriers to deploying new servers – the availability of hardware has been removed – this means that it is possible to deploy very large numbers of VMs very quickly, which can be both a blessing and a curse – looking forward to hearing about your experiences here!

Today we hope to discuss the issues of deploying VMs efficiently and managing a complex virtualized estate which is crucial to cost management.

The Microsoft Microsoft System Center Home System Center website has lots of useful links and resources, but if you have any questions it doesn’t cover or wish to look at deployment and management in more depth, please post below!

Cross Hypervisor Management

One of the great benefits of Microsoft Virtualization is our integration of our physical management tools (System Center) with virtualization capabilities. Also, Virtual Machine Manager supports both Microsoft and VMware hypervisor management.

What are the opinions on both management integration and also cross-hypervisor management? We made a decision early on (I was the product manager of VMM at the time) that we want to bring a best management experience across the board. Thus, we added VMware support to VMM and not just enough support to migrate off but full VMM management of VMware systems.

Do people see value to cross hypervisor/cross vendor management? What other features are you looking for?
