Hello everybody, very happy to find this forum:) Maybe somone can help me with this...
K
I currently reside in japan, just got my ftth(fiber-100mb/s) installed in my apartment:D
My isp's(Asahi-net) modem is 'vdsl VH-100', my wireless router is linksys 'WRT54G2 V1'. I will be connecting my two laptops and ps3, the current laptop in use is acer acpire 5810tz-4657. The connection type is PPOE.
I can connect to internet the wired way, the wireless is the one giving me problems. Was following all the linksys instructions on setting up the router, went to 192.168.1.1 and changed the connection type to PPOE, enter isp's username and password. Wireless still cannot connect to internet though the wireless lan is working in between my ps3 and laptop. Now, when i go back to 192.168.1.1, in the ppoe password tab i can see the encrypted password but it has 5 extra symbols added to it, i change it to my original ppoe psswrd then save, but when i go back to initial page the password is still showing extra five symbols. So can this be the wireless router problem or smth else? Thanks for any suggestions.

It wouldnt be a router problem, but why are you using PPPoE? you don't have broadband?

Does your router/dsl box even have wireless or does it actually have to come down to buying an access point for your network

I may be off track completely here, but with my AT&T broadband I have to use my Speedstream 4100B modem as a bridge and the WRT54G router provides the PPOE.

Could that be the situation for him also?

oh that is an easy one....

take the Lan coming out of the ASDL modem and stick it into the WAN part of the router.

then in your router, you should have a connect for PPOE and that is where you will put in your user name and password and it will keep a constant connection for you

I believe he has a ADSL modem which uses PPPoE connection, and he wanted to connect his wireless Linksys router to this modem for wireless networking.

That is what I did with my system...

Cable Modem >>> Vonage Adapter (DMZ to Router) >>> Router

Incoming IP >>>Vonage Has the IP from Cable Modem >> Vonage Has LAN ID: 192.168.15.1 >> DMZ 192.168.15.2 to Router >> Gave static IP to WAN on Router of 192.168.15.2 >> Router provides the 192.168 to my network.

 I included pictures of my dsl modem, maybe it will clear up the situation a little. You are saying that i should take out the lan cable connecting my computer and dsl modem out of the modem and connect it to the wireless router? I already have a lan cable going from my dsl modem to wireless router internet port.theres only one lan slot on my dsl modem.

I may be off track completely here, but with my AT&T broadband I have to use my Speedstream 4100B modem as a bridge and the WRT54G router provides the PPOE.

Exactly! the dsl modem does use ppoe, i can connect to internet if i just plug my lan cable straight from dsl modem to computer, just have to enter the ppoe usern and psswrd.

 So you use additional access point(vonage adapter)? it shouldnt be that hard , i think it's the wireless router that messes up in transferring the ppoe pswd and username to my dsl modem, like i mentioned in the first post when i save ppoe psswd and username on my wireless router's setup page, there's 5 extra symbols showing up in ppoe psswd tab after the page refreshes.

What can you tell us about the router's "wireless" tab setting? you have created a wireless network haven't you, and broadcasted it?

problem fixed

Thanks to everybody for inputs, couple days ago I reset the wirelless router and did a new setup, the problem was the first time i setup the wireless router , at the end of the setup the software couldnt detect the connection type, and even then the setup was finished and i went to my routers setup page and changed the connection type from dhcp to ppoe, the router didnt save the pppoe pswrd correctly. This time though at the end of the router setup it let me choose the connection type and enter ppoe pswrd and username, so the wireless is working fine now:D
