  • This only seems to happen when playing games in fullscreen widescreen mode 720p, if I run them windowed in the same resolution no black screen hard lock. I have tried swapping video cards. I have reinstalled windows. I have updated bios. I have tried different driver versions for vid card. Ran memtest86+ 2 passes no errors...Don't know what else it might be besides motherboard or psu...

Mesososo, Was this a past issue even before the installation of Windows 7?
If so, this issue could be caused due to the fact your graphics driver does not fit the needs to play the game in full screen. This issue could be resolved by upgrading your graphics driver in your pc.

If games worked fine before the installation of Windows 7, Then you could be missing drivers and I would recommend you to locate drivers for your specific graphics card and download/install them.

Past Experience

I've had this issue before running Windows XP, which was due to the fact my graphics card did not fit the needs to play the online game. I had to upgrade the graphics card which did cost money ($$$) but is worth it if you would like to play the games in full screen.

Hiya Mesososo, a few quick questions pal ?

1) What version of the catalyst drivers are you using ?
2) What is the game(s) in question ?
3) Are you using a HDMI or DVI cable to your screen ?

Hey guys,
I just bought this comp so I've only ever had windows 7 on it.
I have tried catalyst 10.1 and 9.3s as well as swapping out the card and using a 8600gts with latest nvidia drivers.
So far I have had this problem with mass effect 2 and heroes of newerth..will install more soon.
with the 5750 I am using an hdmi to connect to my 32" lcd tv..with the 8600 I had a dvi-hdmi converter plugged into the card and hdmi from there to the tv.

I have just tried to play it in non widescreen mode at 1024x768 and I was also trying widescreen 1366x768 (native tv res) and still locking in both....
When I use the widescreen the video goes black and then a few seconds later the sound stops....in 4:3 the sound has kept going but completely unresponsive..

the video card is an xfx radeon 5750 so it should be more than adequate to play mass effect 2.

I recommend you to upgrade your graphics driver. I believe that is the issue to this problem as I said above.

I was looking through my bios and checking the ram....the bios has it set to 8 8 8 20...but right on the stick it's listed as 9 9 9 24 ....
would this be the cause?
