Removable caddy and harddrives

User
Hi need some help and i am perplexed by the issue in Windows7x64 Ultimate.

I have a USB hard drive caddy. Install the hard drive (on cable select and master have tried both) but Windows7 will not initialize any of the drives.

BIOS sees the drives.
Windows Disk Management sees the drives.

Step by step :

Boot up machine.
Windows (in OS or WDM) I get a pop up :

Initialize disk. You must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it.

Disk 4 has a tick by it.

Use the following Partition style for selected disk :
MBR or GPT(GUID)
I select MBR and have tried GPT (dont uunderstand what the latter is).
Press OK.

Get VIRTUAL DISK MANAGER ''The device is not ready'

Any tips or things I can check please. The data on the disks are from XP 32 if that makes a difference.

I have checked in BIOS USB harddrive and as mentioned BIOS and windows is detecting it and I have different jumper settings on the HDs Master/slave/secondary.
Have tried several different USB cables and ports same issue.
Checked System Devices only yellow exclamation mark is ''Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface' Driver is upto date as verified. Properties shows this device cannot start? Is this relveant to my problem?

Many thanks

M

Is this an IDE drive enclosure? If it's SATA you don't need the jumpers at all.

If it IS an IDE enclosure, you may just need to right click on the left where it says the disk # and click "online" when you see it in disk management.

If it's a SATA enclosure, you may need to do the same thing (make it "online") to access it.

Good luck

Do you need the data on the drive? You may be able to use a bootable disk tool to format and partition it to see if that makes a difference. It really should work on CS.

Maybe the drive is gone. Have you tried connecting it to a motherboard header?
