Netgear WN311B

I just built my first computer and it is running great. However I got the Netgear WN311B network card without realizing it doesn't work with windows 7.

I searched everywhere for fixes for this and got the advice to download the driver. (Hard to do without internet eh?) But I managed to download it on another computer and transfer it with a flash stick.

Installed the 6.1 file downloaded from Netgear, but I am still getting the same error message, that the adapter is not inserted, which is the same message I was getting before.

Is there any way to fix this or is my only option to get a different card?

The Vista 64 bit version might work, you would have to try it and see. Here is the download link Answer

You might want to look at a unit that is compatible with windows7. It is not fair to fault windows7 as the company that makes the hardware does not support the operating system.

I wasn't faulting anyone... just asking if there were possible options before I went out and bought something different. sheesh.

Netgear WN311B Windows 7 Solution

I played with this wireless card on my new computer for a while till I finally figured it out. You have to follow the instructions on Netgear's website for installation of version 6.1 here Answer. When you click on the wizard after installing the card it will say the card is not installed. Go into device manager and right click on the card and select upgrade driver. Pick I will select the driver to install. Click on have disk then browse to the Netgear file in programs and click on it till you find the driver that it installed then click on that. It will install the driver then it will complete the installation wizard. Important don't have the Netgear wizard find a connection for you, if you do you need to disable the Netgear wizard in your startup so it doesn't automatically start on boot. The Windows 7 wireless wizard is faster and will conflict with the Netgear wizard and until one of them is disabled your computer will not connect to the internet or sometimes lock up on you. I know this isn't very detailed and if anyone has any questions I'm online most of the day for any questions. As an added note I have tried all different settings on the Broadcom drivers for this card and haven't gotten one of them to connect to my router, so they are just a waste of time. Any questions just reply and I'll see it later today.
