Windows 7 - Build 7068 - System Crashes

Alright, so I'm new to this but I reference this site frequently for fixes but I've come across one I can't seem to solve so I figured I'd ask for help. Note that I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

I recently moved to Build 7068 to gain more system stability but one bug is still plaguing my system.

My system will crash out and restart or lock up and force me to restart it. Sometimes static bursts come out of the speakers, other times the screen just goes dark and the system reboots. It seems to happen most frequently during intensive processes like gaming or music even.

My first thought is that its either a Vid Card or Sound Card driver issue but I'm running the latest ATI Catalyst 9.3 drivers for Vista and the Beta Windows 7 drivers recently released by Creative. I just can't seem to isolate the problem or if I should chalk it up to the build.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Anything?

I'd say give build 7077 a try since nothing jumps out at me from what you've posted to try to fix otherwise. It's readily available.

There are programs which help you read the minidump and possibly find the offender, but not sure of the name(s).

I noticed you have 2xHD4870. The crossfire might be of some troubles. Let someone else post with more experience with that. Maybe they can help better.

Yes, I tried disabling crossfire and so far that hasn't had any effect. Any possibility this could be hardware related? Overheat and all that?

I doubt heat is the culprit if it happens when only playing music. If you haven't cleaned your cpu fan and heatsink in a while, dust could build up to where it severely impacts cooling and could cause a reboot.

Agreed. Just trying to check everything. And I generally keep the inside of my computer pretty clean.

Just a status update for everyone who might be having a similar issue:

New Catalyst 9.4 drivers didn't fix the problem immediately. But upon disabling CrossFire, I haven't had a crash since. Still crossing my fingers but this issue seems fixed for the moment!

Hi all.. ok i don't normally post solutions that I've figured out lol (stingy.. )... but i saw you guys all have the same problem with win7 and biostar 6100-m or similar boards. Solution is below to make win7 run stable.

Once setup win7 might freeze with fuzzy lines just restart.
Once in win7 goto secreensaver settings. then from there goto power settings. Change power profile to High performance instead of balanced and everything should be fine. Maybe something to do with link state power management or soemthing..

Ok once this prob is fixed let me know if you have sound. which driver you used. I havent tried the latest realtek but the older realtek ac97 drivers did not work. One set of drivers gave blue screen and winupdate driver just disabled the windows audio service everytime you try access the colume control.

PS Let me know if the power profile change fixes everyones fuzzy screen prob. keep this is in mind for all your setups on all desktop machines. Gotta change is to max performance otherwise you're wasting the PC hardware. THis also solves USB issues and possibly some VGa performance issues.

The last post on this thread was back on April 10th, last year. The issue was also in a pre-RC build as well.
