Hi would appreciate any help or advice please, i've had a second monitor set up for a while now, but havn't been using it much, i tried to use my second display tonight and its displaying no signal, the second monitor isn't even detecting in windows at all now, nvidia control panal will not detect it even when you try force it, its not in the devices, won't detect through the right click > screen resolutions thing either, its just like its not even connected.

Only changes i have made to computer lately was updating to the latest drivers as i got bad company 2, i tried going back to the old drivers i had and still same problem.

Im using x64 win 7 genuine version, geforce 9800gtx+, 24" acer and 32" LG screens, have had this setup working before, i plugged in the new screen and it worked straight away i didn't have to do anything, now its like its no longer detecting its plugged in, i've tried many restarts, i've tried swapping the plugs around and still can't get it to detect. thanks guys

Hi and welcome.

The only thing that comes to mind is have you had any weird computer shutdown which would have made your motherboard bios go back to default setup?
You haven't mentioned is you have looked into the bios to insure that the SLI mode is turned on.
You are using 2 video cards.Correct?

Give us a little more information about what you have done to troubleshoot.
Have you turned off power to your computer and both monitors?
Have you verified the cable connections on the one monitor that is not gettig a signal?

My gut feeling is that your BIOS is the issue here.

Let us know what your next steps.

Thanks,

Windows 7 upgrade won't detect 2nd monitor

I recently upgraded a system with Windows Vista to Windows 7 Enterprise. I had problems when it would not detect the second monitor. I tried everything downloading different drivers from different websites. I finally found the solution on my own. 1st download the driver you know is the correct or best for your system and save it on your desktop do not install it. Next open device manager and and uninstall display adapters, and restart your computer. By now you have propbly downloaded so many drivers that you are confusing the instructions to turn on your second monitor. Check to see if you can extend the second monitor by pressing the Windows + P key at the same time. Try to extend the monitor. If it doesnt pick up keep uninstalling and tring same steps over. Finally when no more drivers are left your system should take the one driver. The Intel(R) Q45/ Q43 worked for me. So good luck this finally worked for me. The key is to keep uninstalling and restarting to see if your system keeps tring to install new found hardware on its own.:D

I have a similar problem.

If I start my Dell Inspiron 560 (with Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS), with only the Samsung SyncMaster 740T plugged into the HDMI port, that monitor works. If I reconnect the Dell PC to only the Dell ST2220L monitor, via the VGA port, that monitor works.

If I restart the Dell with BOTH the SyncMaster plugged into the HDMI port AND the ST2220L plugged into the VGA port, BOTH monitors work UNTIL Windows 7 starts up, THEN only the larger monitor works MOST OF THE TIME. Sometimes when I start up the Dell PC with both plugged in, they both continue to work when Windows 7 starts up!!

When I go to the Graphics Properties Screen, I usually only see one of the monitors even when both are connected.

Is there something in Windows 7 that only recognized one monitor?

Frustrated in Wilmington.

2nd monitor won't detect Win 7

Try the steps I listed. Download the correct driver and save it on your desktop. Than keep uninstalling the driver in the device manager and restart your computer several times before you install the driver again. It worked for me I had the same problem. Just keep uninstalling without reinstalling the driver and restarting your computer I would say atleast 3 times, and should work.:D

Dual Monitor Now Working !!

I tried what you suggested, three times, and although the Device Manager recognized my SyncMaster 740B, after initially starting up showing both the SyncMaster and Dell Monitor, when Win7 started, only the Dell Monitor was on ..... until .... I powered down (disconnected power cable), waited for the power supply to depower ( 1 min ) and restarted.

When I started up "cold", both Monitors work ( keeping my fingers crossed )!!

Thanks !!:D

This is really frustrating! After successfully getting both monitors to work, following (3) monitor driver uninstall/install cycles, then the PC goes into sleep it reverts to only one monitor!! Each time this happens, you have to go through (3) more driver uninstall/install cycles to get it to work again!!

Is there anyway to "freeze" the monitor drivers so this doesn't happen EVERY TIME??

Frustrated

Well - after installing three new Win 7 updates, including one for the DELL monitor, the problem seems to have disappeared!

Both monitors now boot and remain on after Win 7 starts! Thanks to those Win 7 geeks that fixed the problem!!

Had the same problem with my Dell Latitude E6330 connecting 2 monitors with DVI from the docking station. I went to the Dell drivers site, downloaded the video driver update which installed the Intel Graphics and Control Panel visible in the notification area, from there I was able to configure multiple displays.
