 Hi, Could someone please tell me why my deleted messages are deleted from the computer instead of going to my Deleted Items Folder? I "do not" have the box checked from Menus - Options - Advanced - Maintenance - Empty messages from the "Deleted Items" folder on exit. Your help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ray

Hi.

Which OS are you actually using, and knowing which program you're using might help to diagnose the issue.

Hi,
No, it's never worked properly. Once I delete a message in my inbox, it's
permanently gone. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate and I am using Windows Live Mail. Thanks, Ray

Strange, works fine for me with both Hotmail and Gmail accounts. Have you got the "Use the Deleted Items Folder" checked?

could be that your OS is set to perm delete... Did you disable your recycle bin by any chance?

2nd: Do you have any rules set for "deleted" items through your outlook client?

Can you post a screenshot of ALL of you folders fully expanded, just the left side with folders? Including all inboxes and Storage Folders, etc? Blur any personal info.

Hi,
My screen shot looks just like FZ21Z above. I don't see where to check "Use the Deleted Items Folder." My recycle bin is active (not disabled). I also have Office Outlook 2007, but it "is not" set as my default program for email. When I'm in/using Outlook, the deleted message folder does work properly. My problem is in Windows Live Mail only. As for adding screen shots for you, I used the Snip tool and tried to copy/paste, but my paste function wouldn't work within this message box. As for all my Rule options in my client, all looks good. Thanks, Ray

:) Hi, After surfing around and clicking on about everything, I did notice something. Upon clicking on either one of my email account panes, I can go into that particular "Deleted Items" folder and the deleted email is there. The only place that my deleted emails don't go is in the Deleted Items under Storage Folders. Is there a way to force deleted items from both accounts to go there? A deleted folder would be nice under the Quick View as well. Thanks for all your help, Ray

setup a rule that will move those 'delete' emails to that folder on both accounts.

Where is my deleted email?

As of today-my deleted emails (windows 7, windows live mail/outlook) are not showing up in my deleted folder. Why? Help. Don't see files tab or options.

I also had the same problem with WLM configured for IMAP. If I deleted a file it would appear on the outlook website in Deleted Items but not in WLM. I believe this is caused by the default rules/settings in WLM. I am still working on it but I have found a work around.

Check out this website.
Windows Live Mail - Configuring IMAP Folders - Kualo Limited

Right click Hotmail and choose settings. Under the IMAP tab check store special folders on IMAP tab. Rename "Deleted Items" to Trash. Click OK

Now when I delete something in WLM it goes to "Trash". The Trash folder also appears as a new folder on my outlook folder and is synchronised. The Deleted Items folder on WLM stays like a redundant folder but I can live with that.

I suspect this has something to do with the default rules within WLM.

Kind regards
Chris

WLM--since yesterday when I delete an email does not go into deleted folder. Gone permanently? Also deleted folder does not have X to right to delete all in folder (although folder is empty) --junk mail has X to right to delete all. Grrrrr

Try to name the IMAP folders like this to see if it helps. Right click Hotmail account and select the IMAP tab. It worked for me. I suspect when you delete an e mail on WLM it goes to the deleted folder on the outlook server. Check your outlook account to see what folders you have there. Also in WLM click the accounts tab on the ribbon/IMAP folders/select reset list. Then right click the Hotmail account and select "redownload all folders".

Kind regards
Chris

Where do you find "the Hotmail account and select "redownload all folders"?

I did this earlier>Right click Hotmail and choose settings. Under the IMAP tab check store special folders on IMAP tab. Rename "Deleted Items" to Trash. Click OK----still when I delete is not going in trash folder. It also moved the trash and junk mail folders toward top of list on left side under inbox-liked it better when it was toward the bottom of list.

Also now there is the "new mail" envelope on top of the wlm icon in the toolbar at bottom of desktop indicating there is new email before it shows in the inbox. Also when I click send/receive at top of wlm to check for new emails it goes thru like it is looking for new mail in all my folders. No issues before about 2 days ago. Have done system restore couple of times. Don't think I have installed anything around that time. Made new account couple times/deleted old-so have re-downloaded files. I've used wlm for 2+ years. First time for issues.

To re-download all folders right click the Hotmail account at the top and select download folders. It may or may not help. You could also try going to the accounts tab and click on IMAP folders and choose to reset all folders. This view will show you if you have any hidden folders that you are not seeing.

Also go to your Hotmail/Outlook account on the web and see if you have a folder with your deleted items there. that may give a clue as to what's going on. If possible please send a screenshot of what your folder tree looks like on the web.

Also when you renamed the IMAP folders did you select the root folder as the inbox or leave the root folder field blank? See previous post screenshot) If you select the root folder as the inbox then these other folders will appear as a sub folder in the Inbox. I tried this and it did not work for me so I left the inbox field blank.

Kind regards
Chris
