Hi, My buddy has a Dell laptop, running windows 7 Ultimate. He is trying to create a system recovery disc. He gets to 35% and it stops? Should windows firewall be disabled first ?

I don't think the firewall has much to do with it. See this tutorial here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

He can use method 2 to download the ISO and burn it.

It could be an issue with your CD burner? He can try checking with Dell for updated drivers. Is he seeing any error messages in the process?
