How to copy music cd playable with any cd player?

Hello,
I have Win 7 Ultimate x64.
I have 2x dvd drives[A DVD ROM & Another DVD+/-RW]. How could I put a music cd [This is I would call the original bought from a shop] in my DVD ROM and put in a blank CD-R in my DVD +/-RW drive and then ?rip or ?burn music to this blank cd that becomes playable in any cd player-such as in the car or in any free standing cd players. I do not want music being first transferred to my music library of my computer HD.
In WMP under "more options" I selected to rip the music to-my DVD+/-RW drive [DRIVE E]. I put in the music original CD I bought in my DVD ROM [Drive D] So that music could be directly ripped from Drive D to Drive E without music files being first transferred to my music folder in my HD. I want to create a copy of my music playable in any cd player without any music being copied to my computer HD.
Now I choose to rip the music and the music got copied[ripped] from DVD ROM [D] drive to DVD +/_RW [E] drive without my music files being transferred [copied] to my HD. This happened to my liking but When I tried to ----
play the CD created in a freestanding cd player or the car cd player the music is not playable! But it did play music in my computer alright.

Then I did the same technique of ripping [from Drive D to Drive E] in MP3 format . I still could not play back the cd music created on a freestanding cd player. It is playable in my computer ok.

Do I need another program such a "Nero", "Roxio", or "Image Burn" to create music cd using Drive D to Drive E [without first copying to my music library in my HD], and that could be played in my car cd player or other free standing CD players?

You're burning the MP3 files themselves to the CD. CDs use raw data, not MP3 files (although MP3-CD players can read these). You need to burn the CD with either the "Burn" tab of Windows Media Player or any "Audio CD" option of burning software. In iTunes, you make a playlist, then select Burn. In CDBurnerXP, you use the "Audio CD" option.

If I to do "Burn" under Windows Media Player, I will first have to copy the music files from my original music cd to the HD. I do not wish for my music copied to my HD. I would wish to copy the music from my music cd to another clean cd directly and that newly created cd playable in any free standing music player such as in my car or in my home cd player. Is that possible in your opinion?

So help me to understand. You have an original music CD. You want to make an exact copy of it, but you want to be able to play it in any CD player. I'm assuming the original CD only works on the computer. If you go into My Computer -> [Original CD], what do you see?

Depending on what kind of CD it is, you might have to copy files to your computer first. If it's just a bunch of MP3 files, you need to copy them to your computer and follow my previous instructions.

Let me explain:
I have bought this music cd from a shop. It is a music cd [Music cd by Simply Red Songs of love]. This I call the original music cd. Now my wife wants a copy of this music cd that she could play in her car cd and at work in a freestanding cd player-not a computer.
I have no problem in playing the music tracks from this original cd on my both computer dvd drives in my WMP.

I wish to copy these music track to another R CD so that the newly created cd can be used by my wife in her car and at work free standing cd player-not on a computer.

While I perform this copying using the WMP, If possible I would wish to avoid the tracks being first copied to my computer HD. Because I have x2 DVD drive [One DVD ROM & another DVD+-RW], I want to know as to how can I put my original music cd in my DVD ROM and copy the music tracks to a cd in my DVD+-RW under WMP that is playable in any cd player.

I was able to do that in Roxio under VISTA in the past. Since I have done win 7 custom install I lost my Roxio!!

I use CD burner XP with windows 7 and it works perfectly, I think it creates an image file when copying but that's just temporary

Yes, CDBurner XP is great. But what I'm not understanding is why it only works on a computer if it's an original CD you've bought in a shop. If it's just me misunderstanding and all you want is two copies, copy with CDBurner XP.

Hi Product FRED,
The original CD that bought in a shop plays in all mechines-computer,car,& freestanding cd player-ok. There is no problem.

It is the cd where the music files had been copied to [this newly created non-propritary home copied cd] , only works in my computer but not in my car CD player or the free standing cd player.

Since I have two drives in my computer[one DVD ROM & another DVD +-RW, I in WMP, Under more options choose the music to rip directly from DVD ROM to DVD +-RW. The cd created this way, I found out, only playable in the computer and not in any free standing cd player or car cd player.
I wish to know if I can copy music in the above mentioned method and the cd created would become playable in any player?


On another note: From where could I get CDBurner XP? Is it part of Win 7 x64?

I am from UK. This would explain as to why in me not replying earlier.

regards your unsuccessful burns something I found with burning MP3's to audio discs for "domestic cd players" is sometimes the bitrate can cause problems, I tend to convert to wav then burn them to audio

You shouldn't have to install 3rd party software.

Media player will do what your asking.

If the files you recorded are in MP3 format, then the CD Player reading the files must be able to play MP3 files. Almost all modern day CD Players play MP3 files, some older players won't. If your CD Player(s) doesn't say it plays MP3 files, then that is the problem.

Another alternative to CDBurner XP would be something like IMGBURN (which is also free) to image or copy the disc if your wanting an exact (Lossless) copy.


But Im confused.

If it only plays on a PC as it is now (for whatever reason), the copy will have the exact same issue. You just making a 1:1 copy, and whatever issues the original has, the mirrored will too.


You could also rip the CD to your Media library, and burn a CD from those MP3s. It will be lossy, but if you rip at 320kps youll likely not notice the difference.

He doesn't want to rip the tracks.

If the original doesn't work in a regular CD player, then you have to copy the tracks to your computer first, and then burn them with the "Burn" tab in WMP. Like stated before, a copy will just mirror any errors from the original.

Download IMGBurn and install it. Put the original cd in the drive and choose "Create image file from disc" After image file is created, put blank cd in drive and choose "write image file to disc" choosing the image file you just created. There you go.

The original disc doesn't play in a CD player for him, only his computer. What good would that do him?

The original does play fine in a cd player for him. Re-read the posts.

Alright, misunderstood, but what he was saying also was that when he attempts to make a copy, the copy only works on his PC.

That's because he was ripping them to either mp3 or wmv format using WMP and then burning the files to disc.

Hi Product FRED,
The original CD plays without any problem in a cd player. It is only copied cd fail to play ina cd player.
I have just tried to copy the music tracks from the original cd put in my DVD ROM and selected to Rip to my E drive that has the DVD+-RW : format in MP3 and Audio quality 320kbps.
A copy created in the R cd plays the music on my computer but when I put this R CD in a cd player no music is playable.

My inference is that I can Rip the music from DVD ROM to DVD +-RW without first riping to my HD. However the music copied in such manner is not playable in a freestanding cd player.

I could first rip the music to my HD and then burn to a R CD in WMP and I know that will allow me to play the newly created cd to play in any player other than computer. However my wish is not to rip music to my HD!!

I have in the past utilised Roxio to copy music fro DVD ROM to DVD +-RW and able to play back on any players.
Like said earlier, I may need to get Img Burn or similar to do the copying.
Mine is x64 version of the Win 7 and hence CD burner XP may not help.
