Sound out of Speakers, not headphones

On my brand new Asus laptop, I have not been able to figure out how to get sound out of my headphones when I plug them in. On my old laptop, if I plugged in the headset, sound went there automatically. Not on the new computer. The headset I have has a USB plug. I was able to get sound out of them once- by disabling the speakers, Realtek Digital Output and Realtek HMDI Output--- if I just disable the speakers, the default goes to the Digital Output and I get no sound at all, so I had to disable everything. AND, in order to get all that back, I had to do a system restore to an earlier date because I have no idea how to get them back otherwise. Please help.

You need to select the "Speakers" as the default device if you have it set to "Digital Output" you wont get any sound at all, Go into Control Panel\Sound and rightclick on "Speakers" and select default device.
