Please help - always startup issues...

Hi all,

got a new PC with windows 7. Every time I boot it goes into startup repair only to never find an issue, I then restart and it's ok. Have disable all the startups (which solved the problems for a couple of days) so it's not anything interrupting the boot. Just getting a bit tedious.

Swear at me if you will but I got my PC at PC World, its an Advent PTG9003W7 a couple of months ago. It's all new and initially there wasn't a problem. Don't want to get it repaired as I can't afford for it to be taken away plus there's probably only a tweak required.

any suggestions??

will run them all when I get back! Had heard that it could be a graphics card issue. Have got cover with PC world so if it doesn't work I'll have to take it in....

Do you have boot logging enabled?
If yes, then locate and go through your boot log to identify the problem. It is located in C:\windows\Ntbtlog.txt.
If not, run MSCONFIG. Click on "Boot" tab and at the bottom, check the box "Boot Log".

apologies - newb and I don't know what boot logging is? How can I found out if I have it?

Check whether you have boot log checked in msconfig, as explained in my previous post.
Check whether you have a file called ntbtlog.txt in C:\windows.

Every time you boot into windows, a log is created. The log file can give you a lot of information about the state of drivers and bootability of your system. It lists all the drivers and services loaded at boot and help you identify problems.

just wanted to say cheers to Bill2 and theog...got home last nigth and the pc started up (for the first time). Went ahead with the scans, no issues but did remove the free bullguard that I had. Got free winvir instead.

anyway - no probs since so fingers crossed!

If your PC is only a couple of months old then return it to PC World. If it is not fit for use, then you can return it. You are within your rights, plus you should have a guarantee.
