I'm thinking of buying a new computer from Dell and was wondering if this was a good hardware setup:

depends on what you are doing with it. 2gb of ram is a little low, but doable.

The onboard graphics are not that good for gaming as it wont have its own dedicated RAM. So it will use some of your 2GB of RAM as well. The ATI HD4200 IGP is not as bad though as the Intel IGP....

The motherboard is not listed on the site anywhere so I cant say what it is upgradeable to either.

For a budget PC though, this is not bad.

I'll use it just for doing my college work and surfing the web. I won't be doing any gaming I'm not the gaming type. I didn't see the motherboard listed either. It is the only price I can pay for a new PC right now. This one is better then the one I have now.

I don't have $300 or more to spend right now. 2GB I think will be fine for what I need it the computer for. I will be installing Windows 7 Home Basic on it to replace Vista. I prefer to have a new computer than a re certified/used computer.

If I'm not mistaken the HD 4200 comes with the 785G chipset which if Dell aren't the total jerks they can be with that sort of thing, the CPU can be upgraded at a later time if that Sempron doesn't cut it. One thing is even though it is the Sempron in it, it will still run circles around his current computer.

As far as the ram goes, yes 4 GB would be better than the 2 GB it comes with, but again that can be upgraded at a later date (definitely don't want to pay Dell's price for it).

I was saying if you are not looking into netbooks because you are looking at desktops and desktops only, then dont look to far into netbooks as I dont want to divert you from your mission.

No I haven't, but that is just because I like desktops better is all.
