Help needed, hair being pulled out

hey all, im in need of some advice.
Long story short. I have a gigabyte board, core2duo. All worked fine. Got new graphics card yesterday. all worked fine. New ram came this morning. No problem until the ram. Installed it, fine no probs. Installed windows, no worries, however 7 was really really sluggish. Thought ah ha, seen this before my old ram was slightly clocked. Perhaps this ram cant handle that. Went into bios, not messing i just reset bios to defaults and pop nothing. Went to reboot the PC and now nothiing happens. Black screen. The fans spin up, its like the PC wants to boot but nothing happens. Now, ive cleared cmos, left the jumper on for ages just incase. But no, im wondering if anyone else has had problems like this and if you overcame them how you did it.

Have you tried to re-seat the ram. I know you said it worked before you changed bios but just a thought cause it has happen to me before.

That was the first thing i thought of mate, resat it, tried the old original modules, seems nothing i do works. I cant even recover the bios, despite gigabyte saying ooo we have quad bioses on our motherboards. So im like mmm

out of interest, is the computer to screen cables on tight and do you have them hooked to your new graphics card?

The other thing to try is to boot into the Windows PE from the install dvd and see if that sees the install If you can get into the bios it would suggest an OS glitch. See if windows can fix itself.

Another thing I would check is that all the connections are made tight. I have lost count of the times I've seen a simple mechanical change has loosened something totally unrelated. I know we never touch anything we don't mean to but you would be surprised how many times the gremlins do so

May be worth powering down and removing the MB battery for a while (30 mins)

And also out of curiosity, does your old RAM work fine?

It could easily just be faulty RAM - not the first time that that has happened....

try only one stick of RAM.
Do you get any BIOS beep codes?
Try running the bare minimum hardware, including no RAM

it only works in _some_ cases, but pulling the board out, pulling the battery out and leaving it sit overnight will sometimes allow the residual charge that can cause some issues to drain out of the cmos.

i did this back when my 939 board was pulling this sort of stunt.

again, only works in _some_ cases.

You may did to reset the Bios/Cmos from the motherboad. Hopefully you have a box/manual that covers the board. If so see if there are jumpers for the Bios & Cmos, and if there are then read what the manual says about using them for reseting bios and cmos. If you go this route ensure you follow the instructions to the letter. Must of the time it is nothing more then jumping the pins, and in must cases the machine should be unplugged. Hope this helps

WOW, sounds exactly like what mine was doing except mine's only like 6 months old and we all think it's my motherboard lols. Check out my other thread maybe something there could help fix yours.

More diagnostics like several of the suggestions above would be helpful in pinpointing what the *exact* nature of the problem is....

It could be something as simple as the PSU going South....

Basically i placed the old working ram in, no joy. 1 stick or 2 sticks nothing happens. Still black screen. However now im getting a couple short beeps just after i turn on the PC. a google search revealed that these beeps are a parity error. I just spoke to my friend who suggested that as i cannot get into bios the board is pretty much useless now. To quote him
'It wants to work, it just dont know where to start looking' So im leaving the CMOS battery out for the day, jumpering it, and if that dont work then unfortunatly its warrenty time. Only had it 5 months lol, see if PC world will exchange without the reciept. They should know i bought it there, they asked me enough bloomin questions when i bought it lol
