Every once in a while, I will sit down to my computer in the morning ( I leave it run 24/7 usually).... and I will notice that my Illustrator and Photoshop programs - all programs actually - which were open the night before, will be closed down...

Windows is running, and there are usually no "flagged" errors.... to show that I suffered a BSOD.... just my programs are no longer up and running.

This morning... I noticed it happened again...so I clicked on the "Flag" to see if there were any Windows problem alerts.... and it said "no issues" but brought up a Windows Problem Reporting dialogue box which I clicked on the tab to allow Windows to try and find a solution 'to the problem.'

Here's a few screen shots of what it came up with.... any ideas what this means??? Thanks.

Oh - using an EVGA Nvida GeForce 8800GTS Driver Version 8.16.11.9062 Date: 8/17/2009

Those are blue screen crashes. You have the default setting "Automatically Restart after System Failure" enabled, so that explains the closed programs.

To disable that:

  1. Go to Start > Computer > System Properties (at top)
  2. Go to "Advanced System Settings" on the L
  3. Go to the "Advanced" tab
  4. Under the Startup and Recovery section (at the bottom), click Settings...
  5. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

If you post your minidump files someone with a reader can tell you what it says:
: [1 - Novice] How to ask for help with a BSOD problem

You can also check your Event Log. Just type that in at Start > search.

Thank you - - - I just "unchecked" the "Automatically Restart".... so next time it happens I can see what's going on and hopefully post the mini dump files for someone to interpret.

Thanks again.

Well, my system has been apparently restarting itself late at night again after a period of inactivity...never when I am actively using it.... because I sat down to the computer this morning and Illustrator and Photoshop and my email program were all closed - just windows was up and running.

I had "unchecked" the "automatically restart" box like suggested.... but my computer still did not show the BSOD on screen like I assumed it would. It just apparently restarts.... no problems shown in/under the Action Center Flag in my system tray.....Any suggestions??? Thanks....

I will mention that my Asus motherboard has all 6 memory slots filled with 2 gb memory sticks each for 12 gb memory. I've heard that filling all memory slots to motherboard capacity can be troublesome???

Edit: By the way... I checked for a Mini Dump file under "Windows" and I don't have any listed as of yesterday or today?????

Did you check your Event Viewer logs?

Type "Event" into the search box under the Start orb and select "Event Viewer". In the top box check for "critical" and "errors" events. If the computer is shutting down due to errors they should be listed there. You can use the "copy > As Text" on the lower right side to post any errors.

Otherwise:
Sometimes anti virus progs restart the computer upon updating. You could check that and/or disable the "restart automatically" box in your prog.

A long shot: Check "Scheduled Tasks". Check your other programs.

What BIOS are you running on the P6T-D?
I have the P6T, running 0904. I have a very sporadic crash that happens due to poor multi-processor management (CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT). I am hoping a BIOS update will solve that bug. You may want to upgrade your BIOS.

I've heard of the memory issue you mention. I was under the impression that the issue was power (lack of), but your 850w should handle that easily. You could try taking out half the memory and testing anyway. Can't hurt, might help.

I can't figure out how to post the "Text".... of the errors, because I don't see a "copy" function at the lower right side of the Event Viewer page.... but here is a screen shot of the general page itself...does this cause any concern? Thanks....

Mmmm. No menus. Funky. You could see if you can right click on the window header and see if there is an option to show menus (why is MS trying to kill these?).
Under the help menu there is a button to open the "Action Panel".

or do this:

Click on the + next to Errors
Click on the first error listed, or the one you think relates to the problem.
Right click and choose "show all instances of this event" (Chances are they will all be the same)
Right click on the event and choose "Copy".

All we are trying to do at this point is eliminate any obvious OS and software errors as the cause. There may be none. Then we move on to hardware issues.

HTH
