Screen Resolution

Hello,

Here's my problem:

I have windows 7 ultimate (64bit) and i just got a new HP w2007v monitor (1680x 1050).
The problem is that i can't use the monitors native resolution.
Im useing an ATI Radeon HD 3650 graphics card. I have tried Vista drivers too but they didn't work. I have also tried to make a new driver with Powerstrip but i couldn't use the driver that I made.

Is there a solution for this kind of a problem or do I really have to wait till Microsoft or ATI comes out with theire solution? The closest i can use is 1600x 1200 but it kinda disturbes the eye.

Could anyone tell me how to fix this problem and how could I use my monitors native resolution?

Are you currently using the latest Windows 7 64-bit 10.3 ATI drivers?

It looks like your monitor currently does not support 64-bit drivers at all. It only has 32-bit Vista drivers available for it that most likely could be used in 32-bit Windows 7 as well.

If having the 64-bit ATI drivers installed do not help, then you might consider installing the 32-bit Windows 7 instead and using the 32-bit ATI driver along with the 32-bit Vista monitor driver to see if you can select your native resolution afterwards.

Yes, I'm using the latest ATI drivers.
But I really wouldn't like to install the windows 32 but edition because i have so much important stuff on my computer. Are there any other ideas?

I tried using Powerstrip but it kinda made things even worse but i'm actually not sure how to use it anyways.
So all instructions and other ideas are very welcome!

HP w2007 LCD Monitor Driver HP w2007v 20 inch LCD Monitor - HP technical support (Turkey - English) Monitor Driver for all OS including Win7x64

It had been a known issue with this monitor. Under Win7 it's not correctly reporting it's EDID over VGA. Cat10.3WHQL should work. There are a few new beta drivers floating around that won't work.

Install this monitor driver and reinstall Cat10.3WHQL. Cat10.3WHQL has a driver version of 8.712.0.0000 and the date 03/02/2010 (8.712-100302b-096979C-ATI)

It also occured to me that you may be using a DVI-VGA adapter. Make sure the adapter at the DVI end has got all the pins.

When i try to install the driver which link you gave it says that i have those files already in my computer but when i want to overwrite them it says that the access is denied but im running the setup as an administrator...

And yes i'm useing an adapter, gonna check its pins and edit my post soon.
But could you give me a proper link to that Cat driver? I'm not sure i found the right one... I'm kinda new to all these driver things and stuff.

EDIT: The adapter seems to be fine. It seems to have all the pins that it needs... There are some empty holes, well actually they are squears and the pins are not looking like regular pins but i don't think that any required ones are missing because i have only screwed it off from my computer like 2 times.

Oh and btw. When i play Oblivion at 1st i cant select the right scren resolution for it but when i start the game the monitor makes and auto adjustment to 1680x1050 and the picture seems to be fine and in the right size.
But when i press the monitors auto adjustment button myself it says the same thing but nothing happens.

If you have a program like WinZip or 7-zip, you can extract the contents of the Monitor Driver from the file sp39950.exe. Then use the Device Manager to update the monitor drivers manually and pointing windows to where you have the extracted files.

Regarding the Cat driver, I simply meant the newest one on the ATI site.

Also make sure that 60Hz is set for the monitors refresh rate as it is an LCD monitor.

Oh yes, that worked well and even the 1680x 1050 option appeared in the screen resolution configuration!

BUT when i choose it the screen goes much narrower than it should be. It made it look just like the powerstrip made it look.

What should I try and do now?

The monitor itself should halve an auto adjust function to stretch the screen to full panel. It also has things like custom scalling.

The screen fits perfectly! Altho the text doesn't look very sharp...

It's cause the LCD is using an analogue VGA connection. There are more On Screen Settings. Play about with them. Usually the bluryness of text can be sorted with Custom Scalling or vertical/horizontal positioning. You are trying to get the monitor to display the picture with a 1:1 ratio. There may also be a sharpness button.

If you play around with the "Adjust Clear Type Text" option it may make the text easier to read. Its normal for some of the pins to be missing on your DVI to VGA adapter. There are actually several different DVI plug configurations. DVI-I (integrated) has all the pins, its digital and analog. DVI-D digital only, analog pins are missing. And DVI-A analog (VGA) only, digital pins are missing.
