Solved windows 7 without hyper-threading ???

Recently i reinstalled my windows several times.
And finaly i think i got my windows 7 set up once for good
and then i discovered that windows 7 only sees 4 cores in stead of 8 (earlier installations) (4 cores and 4 as a resault of hyper-threading)
now i did check my bios and i could see that hyper-threading is enabled.
Does anyone have an idea how to get hyper-threading active in windows ?

Hmm i just find out that under device manager and when i double click on CPU it does show 8 processors, but then why is it showing only 4 in task manager ?

A semi-random suggestion: have you installed the Intel chipset driver?

I just did, it didnt help
its not like my pc isn't working it just strange that it doesen show extra cores in task manager

Double check using the tutorial below to make sure that the Number of processors box is unchecked. If it is and it still does not help, then try checking it and selecting all available processors (highest number) to see if you have them all afterwards in Task Manager.

Unfortunetly it shows only 4 processors

You might see if resetting your BIOS/CMOS to default may help.

Hi,

Try this:
1) Uncheck in MSConfig > Boot tab > Advanced Options > "Number of Processors" and exit MSConfig

2) d/l and install an applet called EasyBCD 1.7.2 (or later, Google: EasyBCD) which supports many features of Windows 7.

3) Go into Advanced Options in EasyBCD and select "Limit Widows to '0' CPUs (Leave 0 to reset)". Click "Apply Settings" and exit EasyBCD.

NOTE: This will force the OS to reset the count to default for the amount of Cores you now have. There is possibly a boot setting that can be added that I may not be aware of to do this same function but this little applet works and does the same thing. Don't muck around with any other setting in this utility if you don't know what you are doing it may leave your computer unbootable and a complete reinstall or long repair may need to be performed. Just make sure this one setting is set to "0"

4) Completely shutdown the OS (not reboot or restart or logout). Correctly Shutdown you computer so the it powers down.

5) upon restart into the OS the Task Manager > Performance tab should now show the correct amount of per core graphs if you have the "One Graph per CPU" option selected. Should be good to go.

I dug this up on the Microsoft forums.
Multiple things can cause this, changing processors and even installing new GPU cards.

Hope it puts you on the right path.

I tried to reset bios but it didnt help. and I didn’t expect it to do, because windows is showing 8 processors but not task manager, so it is a windows issue.
And i tried EasyBCD and ...it works
number of processors set to 0 (reset) and after that shut down my pc, after i turnet it on, viola, 8 processors
So thanks to all of you guys, thanks to Sanvean for the solution, and thanks to bobkn and Brink for the effort.

Same thing happend to me - however when I used msconfig to uncheck the number of cpus and rebooted I got a bsod durring the windows splash screen. However I was able to fix the number of cpus problem with EasyBCD 2.0 - there I could set the number of cpus to the correct number - reboot - problems gone!

FINALLY!!! Thank you very much Sanvea after an intense reaserch i finally got the 4 cores of my intel i5 2400 up to 3.40 ghz 6mbs cache working, i was going crazy already. Thanks!
