I think your problem could be with the "Colour Management" of your screen.
Click "Start" then under "search" type in color management then click "advanced" it should look like this
have you tried windows live photo viewer? its basically the same thing, but has more options, i appreciate it doesnt fix your issue, but it is a nice workaround - Essentials - Windows Live ignore the fact it says messenger, they are all bundled together, just uncheck everything except photo viewer if you dont wan't the rest
