Laptop constantly reboots trying to start Windows

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 with 3Gb of memory (can't remember other specs right now) that is dual booted with Linux Mint 8 (both are x64 versions). Lately, I have been having trouble when I try to boot to Windows. I get the animated logo and then suddenly the laptop reboots. I have to do this several times before I can get the thing to finally boot to Windows. I get no error messages and am at a complete loss as to what is going on. Can anybody give me a clue?

Hello Robin Welcome to SF !!

I guess the best thing to do is to run Startup Repair. Make sure you run it atleast 4 to 5 times. Follow this link http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

I ran startup recovery off the install disk and even though it said it could not repair it, the thing just managed to boot twice with no problems. We'll see how it goes in the future.

Spoke too soon

This morning, I had to boot the thing several times before it came up. I'll look up the event log and post it when I get a chance.

I have the exact same issue as well. Same laptop and same linux distro.

I had this happen as well when I ran Windows vista and several different Linux dual boot distros.

Sometimes it take 4-7 times of rebooting for Windows to restart. I dont bother with the repair anymore, just takes too long and just rebooting it a few times it eventually kicks into win7.

I was thinking it was something I installed. But try and keep my drivers up todate. The one thing I thought it could be was the drivers for my hauppauge tv tuner(USB).

Yeah, I don't know what's going on. It is rather annoying to have to keep booting the damned thing multiple times to get it finally up and running. If I find a solution, I'll post it.

Well, I installed Linux after I installed Windows 7, so I don't think GRUB is to blame. I've never had a problem dual booting until Win 7. I will check out the EasyBCD and see if that helps any.
