Hello,

I just got the ASUS Xonar Essence ST Soundcard. The reviews said it was easy installation, I guess I am an amature, which is true, I'm fairly an amature with all the sound terms and stuff. I have 4 connectors that I connect to my MB, how am I suppose to connect them all to the SC? They are Green, Pink, Orange, and Black. The card has A Front Right Port and Left Port, which a cable came with it connects the Red and White the sound card, and the other side goes to a one green connector which I assumed my Green Connector would go to. My Pink connector is the Microphone, so I used the adaptor that came with the card to connect that, what about the Black and Orange connector? The other connections the SC has, is for Headphone, which is also one of those Thick connectors same as headphone but it came with adaptor, the last one is SP/DIF Out, which does not fit my Connectors, they are the size of a VGA TV connections.
On top of this, it messed up my PC so I had to take it out:cry: But I got the PC running again, I want to know how to connect this thing before I put it back in.
I have a 5.1 sound system. Can anyone help me? Did I get the wrong Sound card?:(

Ummmm... you do realize that is a stereo sound card don't you?

It's inteneded to be connected to audiophile level amplifiers, not computer speakers.
The two RCA jacks for L and R are it. There is a headphone jack, also stereo and a mono microphone jack.

I figured it out from the jacks on it, as shown in a picture... Asus never actually says it's stereo on their website... and they should. So it's not your fault at all.

Yeah I know, and lot of reviews said it works with WIN 7 and everything good about it. I didn't think they all got it because of using it with other devices other than computer speakers. Oh well, I got the Xonar D2 time and that one has the connections need so I'm positive that will work. :)
Thanks man,

Peyman

Yes and no. For analogue it is yes at the moment as they say this on the Overview tab for it,

Essence ST is designed to allow full 7.1 surround enjoyment with future upgrade.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

which as I understand it will be a small expansion card for connecting 5.1 analogue (same expansion card that come with the HDAV1.3 Deluxe).

The no is you can get 5.1 without the expansion bracket if using a digital connection.

The TOSlink or SP/Dif connections will naturally be 5.1 since they're just a basic data transfer port (in a computer, that is)... But that's a lot of money to spend for something you can get from a $39.95 USB dongle.

And, IMO... saying "full 7.1 with future upgrade" is not the same as saying "This is a high end stereo sound card"... 7.1 does not preclude 5.1, 2.1, 4.0 and 4.1 ... Statements like that are far too easily misinterpreted... as our friend discovered.
