Hello, sorry for the noob type question, but I am having a major issue with my home network. I just purchased a win 7 64 bit home prem laptop and it will not connect to my router for wifi unless I unplug and replug in my router. After this it works fine until I turn off the laptop. Then I have to start the process over again to reconnect. My laptop is an acer the router a new belkin with network drive support. Also it will not let me connect to said media drive on this router. When I try the router crashes and I have to power cycle the router again. The router is supposed to be window 7 compliant. All my other wifi devices work great and I had no network issues until I bought this laptop. Thank you for all your responses in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums!

This could be a firmware issue. First place to start is to review firmware in both the router and the drivers for the wireless adapter in the laptop. Make sure everything's up to snuff.

I agree Redbird, sounds like another firmware update is needed here. That router seems to be choking on the Windows 7 network. I wonder if the Op has attempted to "reset" the router yet?

Just checked for router firmware update. No such luck. I have a wii, ps3, moto droid, droid eris all connected wirelessly to it no issues. The laptop is an acer aspire 5517-5671 and the router is a belkin n+ model f5d823-4 v3. I was stumped and not yet real familiar with win 7 yet.

Can you double-check the router model? I think you left out a digit. It should be F5D823"x"-4.

Also check the wireless adapter on the Acer, try and find the exact model. That way you have a better chance of finding the correct driver.

After many updates and changes I can connect to the internet. Still cannot see the files on the usb drive on the router. The correct router number is f5d8235-4 v3. The router has a wd 1 tb hooked to it in fat 32 format. My ps3 can see it wirelessly as a media server. But even when the drive shows up on the acer I cannot see any files in it.

hello everyone,

this seems to be an issue with the x64 version of the windows.

altough I have a pc with a usb netgear wifi and windows 7 ultimate 64 and this machine is the farest machin in the house from the router which is a Belkin MIMO N with no firmware update available.

I recently bought an ASUS notebook with windows 7 64 and this finds the wireless router but wont connect to it.

I thought its teh problem with the wifi card in the laptop so I returned it and bought a newer model same ASUS however I have the same problem.

My iPhone 4 connects fine, my PC as I said connects fine and another machine with windows xp 32 bit connects fine except my laptop.

I am a pc tech and know how to do the networking and all that.

looks like many of you's have the same problem as I do so is theere any fixes?

this is getting very annoying. I have to go literally next to the router and if I am lucky this will connect and I go back to my room and its all good until the laptop goes to sleep or is turned off and same problem again...

The wifi in the notebook is "Atheros AR9285" and has the latest version of the drivers.

the newr the laptops get, the cheaper quality and they eventually become toys but expensive toys...

anyone knows any fixes or updates?

I had my belkin router for about 4 years now and ever since we bought it it did not have any newer firmware for it available...

It's a Belkin F5D8631-4 and the current firmware is the one that came on it and no updates at all and is version 2.00.13.

It is either "Atheros cards" that having issues or the 64 bit version of os.

However I believe its the problem with Atheros cards because I have a usb netgear wifi and on a 64 bit windows 7 ultimate it has no issues.

both laptops i have tried had the Atheros card in them but my brothers toshiba with intel chipset and windows vista 32 has no issues.
