Hey everyone,

I'm curious to know if a VHD can be setup in such a way so that an OS other then Windows 7 can be installed i.e. Linux, FreeBSD, XP, etc...

If so, is there any documentation on doing something like this?

I've looked at some of the tutorial online here and I guess the trick is getting the installer CD of the other operating system to be able to recognize the VHD as a physical disk, otherwise you need to mirror the install to the VHD.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Well hopefully someone can confirm this.

But I found this here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/625-boot-vhd-using-windows-7-a.html

It's mentioned that you can use VMWare workstation to install to a physical disk. In this case, the physical disk would be the VHD!

I'd like to know if anyone has don this. It sounds like it will work :) Obviously the problem is that the hardware detected will not have anything to do with your machine if you reboot directly into the OS on the VHD.

VHD Boot for Non Windows OS

Hey Everyone,

I've created a VHD Disk that contains a non windows OS. It will boot under vmware, is there anyway to have the boot loader load this OS, or is that simply not possible?
