Hi

I can't send POP3 email via 'live mail' on '3 Mobile Broadband' using a Huawei Dongle.

I can view and search web pages - no problem.

I can send and receive Hotmail OK

I have changed SMTP to smtp.three.co.uk and smtp-mbb. three.co.uk, port to 587 and 485
Inbox.com suggest ports 587 & 465 and SMTP of my.inbox.com - none worked

I selected

‘Log on using authenticated POP’

POP3 - my.inbox.com
SMTP - smtp.three.co.uk
No to secure SSL

Has anyone been here please?

What is the error you receive when you try to send via pop3?

I did the above as per instructions.

There is talk on various forums that '3' block SMTP on some service providers, which might include inbox.com - however no-one has managed to confirm this with '3'.

Inbox.com insist I should use SMTP = my.inbox.com but I can't even get that to work on my 'landline broadband' with a different service provider - I had to use their SMTP. In any case it did not work.

The 'blocking' theory is becoming favourite.

I am going to sign up for inbox.com email and give the Pop/Smtp access a whirl here in the States and see if I can get it to work.

I was able to get it to work following these settings up to step 9.

Inbox.com - Email Help

If you notice #10, that step is for those who cannot use port 25 with their ISP.

If that STILL doesn't work, you may want to give your ISP's outgoing SMTP server a shot. If you do, make sure you click MORE SETTINGS, OUTGOING SERVER, and choose "logon using" like the image below:

Thank you for all your endeavours Jelyman. Unfortunately I had already tried all of these settings and more. The instructions you included for Outlook are not the same as Win 7 'live mail' but I am sure I made the correct choices.

I have contacted '3' again to try to get an answer on blocking.

One thing that occurs to me is that if '3' require outgoing server authentication, I have not got a User or P/W and do not know how to get one.

My guess is it would be the username/password they gave you for your account. Contacting them would be the only way to determine that for sure.

Thanks Jelyman

I've fixed the problem, someone on 3G forum suggested: "You need to ask your current ISP to let you authenticate to their smtp address before you send, sometimes known as email forwarding... Ie. in Outlook, you will have a box which you will need to tick with "My outgoing email server requires authentication".
"Whatever you do, don't go through three's email system"
Using SMTP my.inbox.com I ticked "My outgoing email server requires authentication" entered user and p/w and it worked!!!!
