Well I'm no help, but I've had that happen to me now and then at random times simce installing W7.

I never have figured out the real problem, but it's like there is a disconnect betweeen explorer and the real state of the file system occasionally and sometimes you are being shown wrong information. Then when you try to act on it (like deleting a file that really isn't there, either because it has not finished copying or it was already deleted) you get that error.

It usualy goes away by itself or sometimes after a restart.

It hasn't gotten any worse on my machine lately and am up to date. Only happens like once a month to me though.

I set Explorer to open with my User folder and yesterday I noticed it was opening with Documents. I tried to get it back how I wanted and finally tried System Restore which worked. However, the latest 4 windows updates went, so I installed them again and now Explorer is opening at Documents again....grrrrrr!

I also had the OP's problem when opening music files in iTunes.....told me it couldn't find them and then was OK on the retry.

Edited to add: Got rid of all 4 updates and am now back to normal.

Anyone know which update is causing this?

Same crap here/ Not sure which update caused it. Can't get rid of it even with system restore. Uninstalling the updates didn't fix it. back to Ghost from image and try again I guess.

Thanks - I installed all the updates except KB980408 and everything is still fine. That must be the problem one as you say, although it doesn't seem to be affecting everyone.

yeah I double checked this on my machine last night and see no problem (nothing repeatable). Though as I said I've had this issues 4-5 individual times since installing...

It may be 64bit? Only other similarities are Office 2010 installed. I had 3 win7 64bit boxes and all 3 had this bug and were fixed using the reg file above. MS should pull this update fast and apologize for this mess. If I hadn't stumbled on that thread, I would be SOL.

I have 64 bit, but no MS office 2010...

I have DLed it and am about to install it theough, maybe that is a common denominator of the problem.
