A little off topic, but:
I'm dealing with a Compaq laptop (F767NR), running Vista -SP2, that uses a Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 device for audio (hard wired, not component). The owner wants to record music with Nero, but there is no "What You Hear" or "Stereo Mix" device to be activated by any of the usual means (Show disabled devices, etc.).
Doing a search reveals that it is pretty much etched in stone that the available drivers for this audio device do not include "What You Hear" capability, and it may not be available because of a hardware limitation.
So I'm wondering if anyone here knows of software that can create a virtual "Stereo Mix" device that can be used to record what you hear, preferably on the Nero software, Windows Sound Recorder, etc.
I see lots of software to record what you hear, but none make it clear whether they provide that functionality in the absence of a Stereo Mix or similar output device to use.
TIA
