Hi everybody. I have just "upgraded" to Windows 7 RC1 X86 from Vista Home Basic X86 on my everyday PC and One thing that is annoying is when I close Outlook 2003 It sorta closes but there is still the outlook icon in the notification area and if i click on it it gives me a bunch of stuff non of which does jack ****. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

Now Before anyone says it, I know A fresh install would have been nice but just not practical for me yet. Soon when I have the time to go through all my programs and what not.

Nimrod,
I have seen the same thing with Outlook 2000/Outlook 2007 on Windows XP. It's more Outlook than anything I bet. Maybe a hotfix for Outlook 2003 that addresses this?

+1, I agree. Also, you stated upgraded, you might want to uninstall outlook then re-install it (if you haven't already). You can then re-download any Updates/Hotfixes that are available.

Hope this helps :)

Yeah I know "Upgrade" is a dirty Word. I will as stated get around to doing a full fresh install as it certanly doesnt run as well as expected on my Pentium D 950 with 3GB or ram and 8800GT. But for now it will have to do. I have no doubt that its Outlook as Im sure Microsoft are deliberatly making older software run like a dog to make people upgrade. Example. Outlook XP was working fine untill one day a bunch of "Updates" were installed and now on XP it Crashes on Closing. On Vista is hangs slightly on Closing and on Windows 7 it dont close at all. lol

I just though id ask the question to see if there was an easy fix.

Hi NimroadAUS,
What I do if outlook hangs upon exit is just kill Oulook.exe from the Task Manager.

Gotta be the upgrade then - if you're gonna blow it away and start from scratch, just live with it for a little longer - but if you're gonna put off the blowing away, I'd uninstall Office and then install it again.

Of course, be sure to backup your data, such as PST files, templates, etc.

Be aware that if you have installed iTunes, there is an add-in to Outlook that will cause Outlook not to close. This is true for both Outlook 2003/2007. Need to go into Outlook options and disable the iTunes add-in. That will correct the problem. I am not even sure why iTunes would ever have an Outlook add-in to begin.

Itunes puts it addin on Outlook in case you decide to use Active sync. They try to consolidate everything I'm sure.

Bingo. OMG People I knew that the superior brain power of the forums would come up with a solution. Turned off the Bloody iTunes extension and bang, it closes normally and saves me 40mb or ram. Thank you Everyone that has helped.

As for itunes, My wife only last week bought the first Ipod in our house, and about 3 minutes after installing itunes I wanted to smash it as what a joke of a program that is. I tried stopping all the services and start up crap but then it wouldnt work at all kept wanting to reinstall. If Ipods were as easy as the early MP3 Players were as you can just drag and drop MP3's straight to the device as a removable storage unit then I would have got one long ago. Its only simply the fact that itunes is crap and so so hard to navigate compared to my Nicely organised Windows Media Player Library. With 100+ Gigs of music its a lot to organise. Anyway thanks again everyone for your help.
