Why is my xp mode coming up on my windows 7 screen?

Eeek, when i start windows xp mode instead of a screen starting (like an rdp connection) with windows 7 inside it all my apps that would be in the vm screen are on my desktop. What on earth is going on?

Well i fired up the virtual machine today I actually cliked on windows xp mode.vmcx file and the virtual machine started as normal. I think i clicked vmsal.exe last time does anyone know what this is?
