hi Robi, first off do you have another cable you could try ? if so and you get the same probb go to devices.msc and delete your graphics driver , reboot and use the standard vga driver, do you still get the same prob ? ;)

Does it happen when you are playing games but not when at the desk top? OR, does it happen only like several minutes or a half hour after booting the first time fo the day, but then maybe much less time after you reboot?

That kind of behavior indicated that temperature is causing problems, either you have very poor air circualtion or it's very hot where you are and the cad is over heating, OR there may be a cold solder joint that fails when the card warms up (A serioursly large problem with al electronics since the eradication of working (leaded) solder)

Ok, well there's no real smoking gun there, but if the vertical lines are like staticy, moving, or look like they are somwhat randomly wigling or shimmering then it's still likely bad hardware. Since you say the computer crashes shortly thereafter it's most likely the video card rather than the monitor.

It could even be the motherboard itself actually. If you have a spare, older vodeo card that will work in that otherboard you might try replacing it with that for a few days and see if it goes away.

No, the quickest way is to move the card to another computer and see if it malfunctions there. Or replace the card with a different one and see if the malfunctions stop. Then at least you KNOW it's the card or driver and not the motherboard or memory or some other hardware issue.

If it's possible to upload a photograph of the problem it might be clearer. But there have been several bad video card problems here and I've had two burn out on me in the last 6 months. The quality of electronic parts is going into the crapper with current production techniques and location :(

Yeah those are classic signs of bad hardware. Most likely the video card but it could also be the monitor itself (having also lost one of those recently with resuls similar to the pic 4th down). The other pics look more like the video card itself though.

Smaller chances are that it's a bad motherboard or a bad driver, or even bad main ram causing the driver to crash.

Best way to test is the replacement method. Hook machine up to a different monitor see if it goes away. Replace video card with a spare and see if it goes away etc :/

this problem happens very often if you are overclocking your graphics card and not doing it right (instable Core speeds ect.)

make sure that you have not been overclocking at any point.. :)

I LOVE customizing my pc in every possible way... :)
1. Make sure you aren't overclocking or installed any 'performance' tool or anything like that.2
2. Give your case a good clean, blow out dust, etc etc.
3. Put a heavy duty fan next to case blowing onto GPU
4. Use a live CD, and if the lines are still there, then GPU is definitely on it's way out.
